well wait a minute now..
many years ago, there was a driver, i think up in Maine.
he had his time off, can't say if it was a day or two.
anyhow, when he got home, he had errands to run, went shopping with his wife, had quite a long day of this.
went back to work, fell asleep at the wheel, plwed into a car broke down i believe, on the side of the road, killing the teenagers inside.
this started the PATT (parents against tired truckers)
so what's the difference if the guy mows several lawns on his time off, or goes about town with his wife?
no money was involved (other than spending not earning) going about town.
a driver can do whatever he/she wants on his/her time off...no one can make him do something or deny him something.
off duty means just that...off duty.
About Parents Against Tired Truckers (PATT) - The Truck Safety Coalition
i say "do whatever you want..ON YOUR TIME OFF, you GOT THAT RIGHT to live your life, YOUR WAY"....."when someone ever was to tell me what i can or cannot do ON MY TIME OFF, is when i'd tell them to go #### themselves. AND I DID TOO..
Have to show on-duty not driving while mowing the lawn?

That's a good way to get some extra days at the house. Just say you been on duty and don't have any hours to drive and still need a reset
-
Except that's not true. The regulations we run under state any compensated work for a non-motor carrier is On Duty. I'm not going to debate how fair or right it is because that doesn't matter. What matters is the laws we run under.
If you don't like the laws we run under try and get them changed or go to another career that you are not constrained by those laws. -
Had a company safety guy tell me one time that we needed to take 3 days off to reset because we worked 12 hour shifts so the three 12 hour shifts equaled 36 hours
-
Hmmm... Lemme sit and think on that for a while. Hopefully I won't have to fudge my hours a little, but then no job is finished until the paperwork is done!

fudge...paperwork......???

That is stupidest thing I have ever heard when I get home park my truck I'm off duty and I can do what ever I want work for non trucking company no one ever questions me but then again I'm O/O and I also heard if your siting in driver seat u have to log as on duty
-
You may not like it, and it may be a stupid law. Again not going to debate that. It however is NOT off duty if it's compensated work. The laws don't care if you are an O/O or company drive, it's all the same.
P.S. Doing maintenance on your truck during your 34 is also On-Duty time.... -
as long as no one is in our homes (from the company, or they do not install hidden cameras in our homes, which would be a right to privacy issue) , we are free to do as we want. even IF some jackwad company sent a cameraman to my house to video tape me from across the street, i'd scream.."violation of my right to privacy"...
luckily, i never had any issues with an jackwad company. -
I don't work on my truck my brother an law owns a shop he does all the work. Let's say even if u do hypothetically speaking why would u even log as on duty thats waisting your 70. I rather spend time with my wife and kids then work on my truck
