As a recent CDL-A grad my choice of companies was limited, I checked out alot of companies and finally settled on covenant. I to had heard the nightmare stories this company, but after talking with their drivers and reading the post I came to one conclusion. It seemed that the drivers who were serious bout their job and cared about their equipment and themselves were the ones who did really well with this co. All of the bad things I read and heard were from drivers who wrecked equip, had accidents and got tickets and then wondered why they were fired or didn t get loads, and from the way they whined about it that probably added to their demise. I love to drive, I love to travel and the harder the work the better so I foresee no problems other than everyday headaches. Let me know what yall think. Waiting to hear.

You seem to have the right attitude, most drivers that can't cut had a bad attitude to begin.

sometimes its the drivers attitude that doesnt get them the good loads, sometimes they have a terrible fleet manager, and sometimes when you are new thats when you get the good loads and they leave the experienced drivers sitting waiting/hoping for a load. If they can get the load there for a few dollars cheaper with a newb than an experienced driver then that is what they will do.

a good friend of mine worked there for 5 yrs. and loved it, he got hired with a company that does local work now, he said there were some bad days, but overall he was pleased with Covenant. The important thing for you to remember is being new we all gotta start somewhere, and with your attitude I'm sure you're gonna do fine. Stay with the company as long as you can, run legal, run safe and look twice!! When your time with Covenant has run it's course, you'll be in fine shape to find a really good job. All good companies want no job hopping, clean MVR, and about 3 yrs. experience. You will run into bad dispatchers, crappy loads, bad weather, and dreadful traffic. You will get paid to see our beautiful country, meet some really cool people along the way, earn good money and have lots of stories to tell your grandkids one day. Good luck and be safe out there!!

All good points. I have been OTR with a small local company for about three months now. I was able to get and use my CDL in my previous job on a limited basis for the last 10 years or so. The last company petered out due to some bad management decisions and the downturn in the economy. I have found exactly what was stated in the previous posts. All kinds of situations in all kinds of weather. I run in the North East primarily, VA and north to Canada and as far west as Chicago. I apply the golden rule and have yet to get anything but good treatment from most everyone I encounter. Thanks to all the old hands for good advice, the newbies for all the blow by blow and even the cranky guys for showing us how not to behave.

    And there you have it.

You meet another driver and in under 5 minutes of conversation, you can tell what he/ shes doing wrong. First thing a driver usually does wrong is tell everyone in listening area where he/she wont go and what he/she wont do. Then they whine when theyre sitting waiting for freight and others are moving.

I am money motivated. If someone has the pockets, I will deliver their freight down in hell, pick it up today and deliver it yesterday.

Buddy of mine went home for his son's graduation, and to take care of some things around the house. His dispatcher called him and told him of a load that was picking up near his house, 240 mile linehaul for $2500 (do the math). My buddy told his wife that he would be right back, ran out fired up the rig and went trucking right in the middle of his hometime. Of course, the wife wonder where he went off to and was pissed when she found out he delivered a load. For a quick $2500, I would sleep in the doghouse too!

Since you have absolutley no experience what so ever your not even a trainee. Maybe you should wait till you know what its like to be out for prolonged periods, ran close to your home and no be able to stop because of delivery times. Bottom line till you get some time in the saddle maybe you should how your judgement, as your comments just make you appear to be the stupid one you refer too. There are alot of experienced drivers and the last thing need is wet behind the ear newbies.
Check back in 3 years to see how you think.
