I need some info on some Canadian companies that may hire on a guy like me. I have my 1A, but little, to no big truck experience. I used to pull RV's, which was regulated just like the big guys(log books, scales, etc.) so I do have experience in that sense.

I'd love to buy my own truck, but figure I'll drive someone elses for a while first.

I haven't called anyone yet, like Bison, Yankee, Etc. Would like to get some info here first.

    Any comebacks are welcome.

Both Yanke & Bison are good for starting out if you wish to go OTR right away. If you want to stay closer to home you might want to check with a more local company like Ridsdale. They have offices in both Saskatoon & Regina & may be able to give you more experience without having the hassles of border crossing right off the get go. Also places like Yanke & Bison will require you to get a FAST card, etc which will for now expidite your border crossings, but eventually you will have to have a passport.

Most companies will take you with little experience provided your driving record is clear & you can pass the criminal records check, & drug testing.

    Hope this helps some.

Thanks Wildkat. Crossing the border is no big deal, as I did it before with the RV's. The FAST card might be an issue though, as I do have a criminal record. I had gotten a Canadian pardon, but that meant nothing to the Americans. Had to get a waiver from them. So I don't know if I'm eligable for the FAST card or not.

Of that I can't help you... I just know that when I got mine, that's one thing they has billions (seemed like LOL) of questions about. My suggestion being you are not that far from the border is to run down to Portal & ask them, they should be able to give you the straight goods there.

But crossing with freight you have to remember is a completely different ball of wax...I've seen loads get held for DAYS cause something wasn't right with the paperwork...reason #1 why I run NORTH now instead of South! :)

I hear ya on the going south with freight. I didn't do it often, but a few times. Agreed, a lot more paperwork, time, and hassle.

As a beginer you can try Arnold Bros., I believe they still have "In Cab Training Program", which is a lot of help.

i was with them for 5 years out west here and they were good to me and yeh they do still have a few guys doing team training. Get a hold of Murray in recruiting and he'll get you filled in.
