A federal jury has convicted an Indiana semi-truck driver involved in a fatal bus crash in western Wisconsin in 2005 with falsifying his driver's log.
The jury found Michael Kozlowski of Schererville, Ind., guilty Wednesday of five counts of making false entries in his trucking log. A court official says sentencing is set for July 24.
Each conviction carries a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.
Prosecutors say the 26-year-old Kozlowski was driving his truck when his log claimed he was sleeping.
Five people were killed and 28 were injured when a bus hit Kozlowski's semi after it overturned on Interstate 94 near Osseo.
Kozlowski was found not guilty in state court in 2007 of criminal charges, including negligent homicide.

Michael Kozlowski Trial Enters 2nd Day

So the bus hit the semi because the bus driver wasn't wearing his glasses. But the semi-driver is guilty because according to his log book he should have been asleep and not driving. Hrmm, it totally stinks that so many people died, but after being on this site for a few months. I'm not saying he's innocent, but I'm not sure a falsified log book means the driver was sleepy.

you may be right .... but, the fact that he fell asleep and put the truck on its side right in the middle of both lanes tells me he was sleepy.... and on top of that he was logging sleep time at the time of the wreck if i read that right..... indeed the bus driver is partially to blame. unfortunately he perished in the crash and cannot give his side of the events that took place...

Each false entry = 5 years prison. That sounds pretty harsh. I wonder how many suicides Bernie Madoff is responsible for? How much time will the driver get versus Madoff? I wonder.

    GAPrincess Thanks this.

I'm not trying to minimize the deaths of those killed in that horrible accident. :frown: Those people should be alive today, if not for the alleged carelessness of the two drivers.

IMO, Madoff and his wife should be tarred and feathered in the center of town before being drawn and quartered. I'm sure their actions caused many suicides and heart attacks.
