I run midwest regional so I don't know to much about family dollar (cept that my first trainer said he hated it when he used to do it) and I have heard nothing about deaths due to not being able to idle tho I would not be surprised if it was true. It is not really werners fault tho that states have anti idling laws.
The time was just something I heard from my fleet manager I don't really pay attention to it most of the time. I'm usually around 7mpg and 8% idle when I do check it ( no apu) and yes I still work for werner.
I do agree that the lottery thing is pretty unfair and badly thought out as a way to get people to try and get better mpg. It mainly depends on where you run and what weight you are hauling both of which you do not have control over so from what I see no one really tries.

Not to defend Werner in anyway, but then those same students stay with Werner about six months and then move to another company after getting PAID training from Werner.Nascar_Bobby said: ↑As for Whining from new CDLers, Werner wins hands down. I do not think it is because they train the most new CDLers. I think it because Werner lie their butt off about their student training program on their website which states currently 6-8 weeks and 300 hours and you can test out. The student starts to realizes the lie when they complete over 350 hours of training and are on their 12th week without a break. Werner does not mind running the student as a team when the student is getting an average of about $350/week.This is clearly a good reason to post Werner as a bad company on this forum. The other large trucking companys seemed not to do this. If the other large trucking companies did this, I feel they would have similar complaints but don't.Click to expand...
And those 300 hours? Well, I've known a few to go directly to the road, experienced drivers. I've known many to go on the road with less, some as few as 75 hours. I've known many go on the road at 300, and I've known a few to go back to training for more hours. It just depends upon what the "end of original" training eval is. Release or more training.
BTW, "rumor" from Ohama is that Werner got a deal on Internationals. Seems International gave em a better price than FL or PB. I know one trainer who has a truck with about 280K on it (and newer than my other halfs who has nearly 300K on it as a solo) and he was told to go to Denver and get a new International because his truck has too many miles on it for a team truck.
Also, anyone dealing with those "Tuesday" reports of where you have to call in your MPG because of the new QComms although everyone, even those with the old QComms, have to call it in? Just trying to figure out of this is just an account thing, or across the board.
As for the person who was asking about deaths due to no-idling in the SW, none... as of yet... give it time, unfortunately. -
We sent our idle time in each monday to our fleet manager. The deaths could happen but I feel if they did the driver was in bad shape as well for I spent time in them states with no AC but as you can see I still am alive. A lot hate Family Dollar for it is work but if you make it with them you will stay in shape!...lol..As for the students I heard 275 hours when I went through orientation unless the student needed more training and from talking to trainers I think a lot of them should go back to train the trainer class! My biggest beef now with Werner is I had two accidents of the same type, one chargeable one not.5th wheel came unlocked and moved while backing and at FD you have a roller rack mounted on back of truck,it cut a hole in trailer, left corner and at some FD stores you got to jack knife into them but my beef is the first time they never fixed it right and they did not the 2nd time but it saved them 200. to not fix it right but its not my problem now but in a way it is for now I got to wait 6 months before I can get on with a good company.I take 50 percent blame but Werner is not taking any.I hope you make it till retirement with them for chances are they will screw you if you quit! I am waiting on my DAC report, will let you know what it says when I get it,should be soon.Jacob6875 said: ↑I run midwest regional so I don't know to much about family dollar (cept that my first trainer said he hated it when he used to do it) and I have heard nothing about deaths due to not being able to idle tho I would not be surprised if it was true. Best I can tell all have to so Werner can send out warnings if your idle time is to high!Steele said: ↑Not to defend Werner in anyway, but then those same students stay with Werner about six months and then move to another company after getting PAID training from Werner.

For anyone to answer,
Yes, more and more states are adopting idling laws. Terrible, how are you suppose to sleep in that sweat box? This is what I heard: If your company does let you idle and the state does not find out that you idled then nothing can be done. Is this true? -
The company I run with allows you to idle as much as we want and I idled in NJ on my ten hr break and was never bothered during the colder months. Its in the federal regs that a driver can idle to keep him or herself comfy did this in a few other (no) idle states as well. I'm not gonna freeze or sweat my butt off
luvtheroad and iamkaren123 Thank this. -
The police issue a ticket and from what I hear its not cheap,New York a reefer can not run over 5 minutes as well and I had ran mine in New Jersey as well before the apu and to ticket you they would have to sit there and time you but its like most traffic laws, they enforce it when they want to.You forgot the ice box in winter....lol....Thanks to all on here for all the info on other trucking companies as welliamkaren123 said: ↑For anyone to answer,

But if there is no cop, you could do it, right? Would the company do something to you?
And yes, I remember how cold and the blankets I piled on. -
Rumor has it that trainers pay has been reduced by $0.03 per mile.
