Or come to where I work and have the real easy flatbedder. We dont tarp. Lol.

 

I started out my career dragging a 53' dry van, so having walls doesn't bother me.

On the other hand, if you have to back into a tight bag or a dock type set up (looking at you, Alcoa!), you generally have to loosen the tarp before you back so you can safely open up inside. That is when it gets a bit hairy. Once that tarp is loose, it flares out and takes a lot of mirror away.

Need to be either really patient and willing to get out and look a LOT, or exceedingly superb at setting up your back properly every time in all situations.

Despite that, I LOVE my connie. Makes steel loads and LTL type multi-stops a breeze!

Does limit you on freight, though. Some shippers won't load them for fear of damage claims, and you lose the ability to run over width, overheight, and a lot od overlength.

Dang thats good to know, i dont mind tarping. Never did . i like to take my time with it and make sure its done right. Id love to pull a connie one day just to see what its like

 

I've been dragging a connie for just over two years now. And with buying a truck, I'm now looking at dragging a connie, or doing step/flatbed with VERY limited tarping.

I do have a reason for no tarping. Health. I've torn and damaged too many joints being in a hurry with tight scheduled flatbed freight. Throwing rags these days is a fairly substantial risk that I simply cannot afford.

 

There are many good carhaul companies that would work for you living in Dallas. Just google carhaul jobs Dallas and see who is hiring. Car hauling isn’t for everyone, but if you like it you probably won’t ever go back to any other type of trucking. I am 32 years in to trucking with 7 in carhaul and the last 4 as a carhaul owner op. I was a flatbed owner op and company driver for a couple top shelf companies. The flexible schedule of carhaul doesn’t compare to anything else I have done. The pay doesn’t hurt either. If you aren’t making close to $2,000 a week and staying in a hotel or your bed at home you can be eventually as an experienced carhauler with the right company. It may take you 6 months or so to get the hang of it. There are also many good paying carhaul jobs with a sleeper, but I prefer a hotel.
