Just a suggestion for all vehicle owners, not just truckers.
Write down (or memorize) your license plates and/or VIN numbers and keep them with you. Do not leave them in the vehicle, as it kind of defeats the purpose if it gets stolen.
I am sure many of you do this, but you would be amazed at the high number of tractor trailer thefts, especially in South Texas.
The faster we can enter a vehicle as stolen in NCIC, the better the chances of recovery.

That's our insurance agent's job.
"Hey Frank, my truck was stolen."
"Your Ford or Peterbilt?"
"Peterbilt."
"OK, I'm on it."
Just that easy, if any of our vehicles were stolen I have my insurance agents office, home, cell and call forwarding service #'s. One call and he informs the police and everything.

That's good, but are all insurance agents 24/7? Not many that are.
And, most agencies will give a lookout on the radio if we have information.
Ex: "all units be on the lookout for a blue peterbilt tractor with abc trucking logos on the doors and LP of abc123/ Texas plate" is a lot better than " all units be on the lookout for a blue peterbilt tractor with abc trucking logos unknown license plates"
I just suggested it because its frustrating that so many trailers (and vehicles) are stolen and people do not know their plates. -
I would imagine if a thief steals a truck,,he will pull the logos, put fake signs on,already prepared, change the plates as soon as possible when he takes it. If it was me I would pay and put electronic locater in the truck and trailer If I owned both, unless you have fire and theft and collision on your truck, the insurance company won't care if they are not paying. Years ago, florida was checking on all trucks and frame numbers, florida located alot of stolen trucks. ma. used to check aoo serial numbers, evidently they mostly check the safety operating parts instead of vin, frame part numbers. you should have a shut down switch hidden someplace where no one knows where it at.

Actually, since we are on the Mexican border a lot of trailer get stolen and are in Mexico before they are reported.
And a lot of trailers are hooked up and taken to Mexico after being parked on roadways and empty lots.
It is a HUGE problem here.
(And we dispatchers hate entering trucks stolen, they are a pain in the ### to code properly) -
Very bad area, wish you luck,I live in nengland,From what you hear out here, the loads are already sold and trucks dismantled for parts sale. I hate theives!!!

Well you know what a reefer is called south of the border?
'El single wide'

I guess if a thief steals a truck, based logos, revealed false, already prepared, changing the plates as soon as possible when wearing it. If it were me I would pay electronic location and put in the truck and trailer, if I have two, unless there is a fire or theft and collision on your vehicle, the insurance company does not care if they are not paid .

Like was mentioned ... use EXTREME caution along the border, especially the Texas southern border. There are armed hijackings of big trucks going there almost every week but few make the news anymore because they don't want to create a major panick or revolt in Obamaville and Perryville .. It's thought the Mexican cartel(s) are behind most of these.

I remember an incident when I worked for Stevens and the Nuevo Laredo police found one of our trucks after it had been stolen from the Pilot and charged Stevens a hefty "recovery" fee to get the truck back.
