I turned 22 last thursday MM.
I like the prostar and have yet to hear anything bad about them. I sat in one the other day and liked how it was made. Everythings within reach of the driver.
As for freightliner, the centuries, columbias are pieces of junk. Good starter truck but my advice is to wait until you can afford a Paccar product or a Intl Prostar.

Luis,
I do help maintain a 02 Freightliner Columbia and a 99 Pete. I did not mean to hurt your feelings if I did. The Pete has the best reliability. My friend is looking at replacing the Columbia in the near future but its doing the job and paying the bills. Right now hes looking at a couple Petes. Once he makes more, he'll replace the columbia with a KW or Pete.
From what i have heard, Celadon, Walmart, and heartland are happy with their prostars. They get excellent fuel economy with the new epa crap on them. The pics of the dash are from a heartland truck equiped like that.

I've put about 600,000 miles on 3 different 387 Petes. Likes, it's a Pete and has plenty of room. Dislikes, visibility is very poor over the hood - it has a huge blind spot on the right front - which to my way of thinking that's one of the main reasons a person buys an aero truck. The truck has just as many rattles and sqeaks as a freightliner century - and I'm talking about a brand new 387 Pete here - which is something I definitely don't expect from PACCAR. The front ends seem to eat up steer tires like crazy from my experience it's like nothing you do can ever get them right.
I've put about 600,000 miles on 2 different VNL670's. Likes, rides and drives like a cadilac. Very quiet inside the cab one of these trucks I had from new until 400k miles and nothing was ever sqeaking or rattling in the cab. Very easy to set up for backing into holes and will turn on a dime. Ergonomical cab but not very roomy but we are talking about a 670 here. As far as electrical problems someone metioned about volvos mine were mostly just random meaningless CEL's that were just annoying more than anything and I actually only had those with my Cummins powered VNL. The VED12 powered one never gave me any problems except for egr valves. That said I'd still avoid the volvo engine due to the fact there's only a handful of places where you can get one worked on plus the lack of parts availability and high costs.
The 387 and VNL are both a pain to work on and will cost you more in labor if you're not doing it yourself. Volvo exterior parts are very expensive. My company recently replaced the entire driver side mirror assembly on a volvo where someone knocked it off at a cost of $300. I have never seen the inside of a T2000 but have been told they aren't so great in the leg room department if you happen to be a taller driver.
I just bought a one owner well maintained T600 after considering various aspects of different aero trucks much like yourself. It's actually the only T600 I've ever driven but I was really impressed with how well (among other things I liked) it compared to the volvo having no sqeaks/rattles and was very quiet inside the cab - this being on a truck with 700K+ miles on the odometer. To my way of thinking T600 fit the bill with good aerodynamics and a quality truck that I will be satisfied living out of. But like someone has pointed out all the aerodymaics in the world won't mean squat if your drivetrain specs are wrong or you have poor driving habits.Last edited: Apr 1, 2009
Eskimo6804 Thanks this. -
I think I just got a headache. LOL. Trying to get truckers to agree on what's the best truck, is like trying to get Replubicans and Democrats to agree on a stimulus bill. Its just never going to happened.

All this coming from the same person who not that long ago swore by Vulva's and downed all Paccar products. Let alone the fact that he has never driven a truck before.Luis and Eskimo6804 Thank this. -
After I've ridden, and sat behind the wheel of a 379, I can say that a paccar product is very comfortable.
My friends friend has bought two cascadias and i hope he does not have problems mentioned on here. I've got to hand it to Peterbilt and Kenworth for keeping the legacy going with the W9, 388/389.
