Fukushima disaster was a game changer. Future nuclear power stations will use isotopes that have very short half-life Scientists are working on it now. Uranium will not be used because it has 704 million year half-life. For sample Strontium -90 has only 28 year half-life.

China is building portable "pebble bed" nuclear reactors.

Seems like most other countries are building Thorium salt reactors. That can not melt down.
And they use spent uranium fuel, or whatever.
But that is not in the goals of the U.S.A.

The goal of the environmentalist in the USA is to prevent any nuclear power stations to be built. There are a couple plans for salt reactors, but it's a 20 year approval process. Heck we have a reactor just coming on-line that had ground broken for construction 40 years ago....
The environmentalist would rather have dirty coal or dirty (but much cleaner) natural gas than clean nuclear reactors Makes no sense to me.

IDK. Wasn't nuclear power promised to be safe clean power? I won't hold my breath.

Other then Chernobyl, which I'm convinced they were trying for a meltdown, the other meltdowns of Three Mile Island had 0 deaths and Fukushima has so far had only a single death attributed.
Most everything you hear is scare tactics as scary sells.

Half lives are not a tactic.
