I recently completed Roehl orientation in Marshfield WI and am in evo1 of training. It had been several months from my graduation at driving school and getting behind the wheel for my orientation test. I can tell you they did not expect me to be a perfect shifter and I was not. We actually practiced running up and down the gears as we drove block to block. My evaluator told me his biggest concern was to see how safely I drove, through intersections, turns, RR crossings, backing, etc... One of the experienced drivers in my class failed his orientation behind-the-wheel because he stopped for a semaphore with his trailer on the RR crossing. It would have taken more than some poor shifting to fail the test I took. One other point, Roehl makes it very clear that you are not an employee until you've completed your orientation. Being pre-hired is only the first step of the process. I'm sorry for your friend and I hope he finds a great place to work.

You have a nice attitude. I take it you never had to learn to shift. EVER. You must have been born with that skill.
Everybody I met had to learn to shift at some point in their life.
