I agree with both of you. The problem with this technology question is how viable is it really? I am going to side with folks who believe it's a long ways away. A couple decades for sure. But once it's here @MACK E-6 brings up the other side of the coin. No matter how advanced it gets, we will still need to be part of it. There's no other way. But how much will they actually let us do when it's needed? I fear that the people coding these things will look at us like ignorant chumps because we don't have their degree. But as we have all discovered and experienced, those people are the real chumps. Your degree means nothing when you are trying to be a broker or dispatcher. You don't know our HOS limits, you don't know the roads, you don't know the traffic, and you don't know about how we're treated at shippers and receivers. Now you want me to trust a guy programming my truck? C'mon man, let's be real. You can't run your freight without us touching it. These tech guys are adorable. I know they have big dreams. Put your diploma down and come over here. I need to wipe away all of that wetness behind your ears, and its gonna take a minute.

None of us on this forum will still be alive anyway when they actually make totally self driving trucks, so don't worry about it guys.

Terminator would be a Classic today. I watched it as a youngster and didnt understand half of it. Then decades later as a adult and different eyes. Not to mention hearing a apparently turned up snorting big rig in stunts. Whoo hoo doggie.

I don't like the thoughts which show up in the night when I consider the implications of such a situation presented in Terminator. Discarding the hollywood 10,000,000 rounds fired. It's silly. And the magnum slug guns too. I fire them exclusively until doctors told me to quit it. They would produce a 5 foot long two foot spear of fire as the 3.5 magnum slug leaves the barrel. Usually hit 30 yards a man sized target center mass. and they could not hit anything in the movie. Typical.

The insidious skynet in the movie for it to work requires time travel; We would have to learn how to explore the inside of black holes and come back out to report on it before we master time travel based on the Space Gravity and associated problems in Physics.

The Chinese are developing AI at a faster rate than the usa or other countries. They predict they will have driverless vehicles in 15 to 20 years. With the support of their government, they will likely be the leaders in driverless technology. They are predicting 40% of their jobs will be replaced by technology in that time frame.

Due to their larger population, their AI system has a faster learning curve than AI in other countries. They showed examples of this on 60 Minutes last night.

Also, in China you don’t have plaintiffs attorneys slowing up the development of commerce.

So, if you are 60 years old, or younger, you could see it in your lifetime.....in other countries than the usa.

AI is a bigger revolution than electricity.

You know that truck have probably 10 cameras around it, with multi dollar company behind wheel with high pay lawyer, I am pretty sure it will be no brainier to prove that that self driving truck was not at fault . So in the end get rdy to sell you're truck first

Studies already on that issue was made. Beside what the chances that that situation with truck driver and school but are going to happen? Sure there is news about it now, but think how many more safe million miles was traveled before accident with bus happened. Also don't forget that law can be changed in favor of self driving trucks, and for expample all school buses will be named from driving on interstate roads. We all know that right next to interstate, there is alternative road you can take.

I am telling you guys in 5 years most of out will be doomed!

These trucks only look at the first vehicle in front of it unlike us we look at several vehicles ahead the moment one hits he brakes we’re already slowing down. So it would be easy to make an insurance scam by having some buddies stimulate traffic and have the car ahead slam the brakes. Boom truck responsible.
