it is true that if you can't pass the upgrade road test they will let you go. I can tell you this that the upgrade road test is more forgiving than the schools road test.

with that said the rest of what Grandma said was pretty accurate however i do like the food in the Central Café i even ate there this morning JJRanch:biggrin_25525:.[/QUOTE]

    JJRanch,
Are those that fail the upgrade road test obligated to pay the $3k? This would be motivation to all to "NOT" fail it!

Sounds like Utah may be better than California for training at least foodwise if all things are equal at both lol, does one have a choice since I'm kinda in the middle being in Las Vegas?
    Thanks much

When you do the upgrade road test you will have been out with a trainer for 28 days so you should be reasonably confident.

I would go to WVC over Fontana CA, as WVC is the main Terminal if they gave you a choice.

Rak, I agree with Jess. WVC is a much better place to spend time than Fontana. More amenities on site and easier to get around during any downtime in the evenings.

Do we still have the van that runs around to take you into town and such?

Also, in the old days, we would sit in the trucks and go to channel 5 to argue back and forth with the England drivers. Ahh, good times!

Well, folks, it seems there are enough new members here to pull out the advice column and share it once again:

    1. I promise that after the first 6 months, this job becomes much easier. This is because you will begin to learn the shippers, the recievers, and the fuel stops. My advice is this: Before you start the job, promise yourself that you will stay for at least 6 months no matter how hard it seems. I PROMISE you that it gets easier after 6 months and the other old timers around here will back me up on that.

    2. Remember that we are all in this together. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Also, remember that the England drivers go to many of the same places we do. Don't be afraid to ask them for help and to offer your help when you see fit.

    3. COMMUNICATE COMMUNICATE COMMUNICATE. My FM used to say, "I'm not your soulmate. I cannot read your mind. Tell me BEFORE things become a problem."

    4. Spend the money for a good quality flashlight and keep it in easy reach.

    5. The most successful drivers are the ones who get their load from point A to point B with a minumum of fuss and drama. Watch for good successful drivers and learn from them.

I hope these tips help you out on the road!

Well the first 2 checks have been good fuel is at 6. for the week did 3969 for the week fuel after s/c was a dollar plus a gal. nothing wasted for sure. Looks like I won't be seeing a student next week to many trainers on the list and there not going to let usa have his way. Kinnda nice I need a break should have 4300 for the week and 5300 for this week so the xtra money will come in handy.

for the upgrade test you back between 2 trailers and do a road skills test around west valley when i upgraded jj ranch and dsis20 worked with me the night before so i would ace it and the practice really helped. they give you2 chances to pass the test if you dont pass the first time they send you back out with another trainer to hone your skills. if you dont pass the second time then your sent home. i had a guy in my class who failed both times he was sent home and was responsable for paying back the money for the school. they look at it as you got your cdl ( no job ) so you owe us the money for the cdls that you possess. hope things go well for you its really an easy upgrade if you listen to your trainer and do exactly what they tell you.

glad to hear you passed and you should be able to pick your trainer they have let students in the past do it . i specifically asked for jj and was granted my wish. just tell ron johnson that you want to train with 6 pak or jj and he should let you do it. on the second day of orentation is usually when they ask if you have any special requests for a trainer pm me with your number and i can tell you how to go about it. it worked for me.
