I am new to this forum....actually I read through it for over a week before joining...it helped me confirm my decision to become a Trucker and join Prime Inc. I should be starting next week here in Springfield, MO. There has been very good posts and info for everyone. Any suggestions for newbie like myself getting ready to hit the road?
Maybe some of our paths will cross someday...

Hi kickmack. Welcome to the board. Although I myself am not a fan of the "Lease/Purchase" programs, I wish you luck. I will say that it is tough out there. I hope you have some savings. Going into driving "green" and jumping right into the responsibilities that come with operating (notice I didn't say owning) a truck takes a huge financial toll on someone. If you are smart, safe (check, check again, and when you are sure your good check again), do things at your pace (don't let people pressure you into mistakes), work hard and save money you should be sucessful.

Did not know Prime had company drivers. Of course I was off the road while I hauled gas. Kinda stayed out of the loop.

They have both company and lease/operator drivers...just seems to be more l/o than company though....

I'll tell you at the onset, be extremely carful what you believe.
If you plan to lease a truck, remember that what the company will lease you is out of warranty. If by some wild chance it was well cared for by it's previous drivers, you can make some money at it. But if it was abused, it's going to cost you a lot to keep it running. You have no way of knowing the history of that truck and the Leasing Desk is not equipped to tell you it's history.
Consider this: If you lease directly from a dealer and lease a NEW tractor, you have full warranty, usually out to 350,000 miles, and you aren't sinking money into maintenance. You still have the routine stuff, oil change, tires, Winscreen wash fluid, the every day stuff. But the big ticket repairs are the responsibility of the manufacturer. Prime will tell you differently. They are sales people. They tell you what they believe will sell you on the idea of paying for the maintenance they do and if all goes well, you can genuinely make money leasing a truck. Way more than a company driver.
BUT: If you get a bad truck. you'll spend most of your income keeping it running and road legal. Remember too, DOT can shut you down for a light out if they want. They have way more power than they deserve, and it's going to get worse. If you aren't rolling, neither are you rolling in money.
I'm searching for a situation that will keep me closer to home, but until I find it, I'm a Prime Inc. driver.
