But I go back to my original statement. The 250 run should have paid $600 or better to begin with.

Columbus MS to Natchez MS (268 miles) with a load of scrap paper pays $750.

Now ask me which I would take.

That's all I'm pointing out. You're getting jacked at the moment. Brokers and companies know how to work it to their advantage. Keep your eyes and ears open, the money will follow.

That same $750 load, pays the driver $550. If he gets it through the local broker.

So much for the "I only get 7%-10% of each load" statements you see brokers make in this forum.

Well in our kind of trucking there is technically illegal and ILLEGAL. No you don't have to drive 15 hours a day, but I SO PROMISE YOU if you logged 3 hours getting loaded and another 3 getting unloaded you WILL be out of business inside a month. Greed doesn't even enter the equation. YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT.

 

You can't say that loud enough, nor can you repeat it enough times to make believers out of some people.

 

I don't have alot of experience but when I had a job if it took 2-4 hours to get loaded I would only log 30-45 minutes of on-duty time and the rest in sleeper.Sometimes it worked to "log" my 10 hours break time then log loading as the start of my day.

 

Not at all. I'm telling you that you can get a CDL, ride with a trainer for 7500 miles at CFI. And be making a hell of a lot more than .20 a mile.

Or you can get a CDL, spend 10 days in in-house training at Watkins and Shepard. Then start at .29 a mile. If you go the 30 day route, you start at .28 a mile if they pay for the school.

The reality is....not all companies make it a practice of keeping Vaseline in the hall closet.

As far as joining "reality" I quit one job in December, had another in February. Wasn't in a hurry then, and I won't get in one the next time. But hell will freeze over before I accept pre 1985 wages for driving a truck.

.17 a mile equals $340 for 2000 miles a week. Industry average at the moment.

Minimum wage is $7 an hour plus now. I take that $60 a week hit, and let the desperate drive for weeks on end. While I sit at home taking their wives out, so they can escape their reality for awhile.
