Up and coming driver, are you still in school or have you graduated now? I was wondering if you went with May or another company? I am currently a student in North Central Florida and was considering May also. I liked their variable training time and the potential to take a passenger (my wife) with me fairly quickly. I welcome any insight about home time from any May drivers in my area, as well. Thanks.

Leroy! You need to call Jennifer in the Pensacola Terminal. Hometime is great if you are in a hiring area. Im Training a student from Jville/ Warner Robbins(wink, wink) right now and had one from Hastings last month. Jennifer is your best source of info. I will answer any road/driving questions I can.

And to leroy. May is a good trainng company. But remeber that they are that a training company. Once you get some experience get away from them. Far away. -
I have been with May for year and a half now, i have/been looking since i got my year in.
i find it very HUMBLING, to find that they are not a bad / or that bad of a Company.
i have compared pay, miles, with most of my looks at... and May is fair. imo...LostSoulCA Thanks this. -
Thanks, Hank Sterling! I will try to find a # for Jennifer and let her know that you sent me her way. I would say that May is my #1 right now for several reasons. I will try to let you know if anything comes of it.

ya know the funny part is all these companys slowed down the trucks when fuel hit $5 last year...now its down to $2.50 they havent speeded the trucks back up...imagine that

First clue is May wants you to sign to ding your pay for idle time, 1st tip off. They do require chaining, this is not the drivers option. Alot of free tailgating at least on the LA Loop.
The Los Angeles Loop is LA, CA to Phx, Az to Denver, Co to Bellingham,Wa to Salem, Or then back down to LA. So the miles were OK but the pay system is difficult to understand. Normally the companies do this to get over on the driver. Miles without money is worthless.
I would reccomend Swift over May. I dont really know about Swift, but I would not work for May. For instance ! picked up a loaded trailer in the Phx yard, called in told safety it needed tires, all they cared about was the color tag for the tires. 1 of the tires I wanted replaced in phx blew out in Albuequer, NM I took it to the T/A under safetys instructions and returned the bad tire casing to salem on the next round. My next safety check was with held because of the blow tire I had warnned them about. That was the final straw. If they would rip you off for a bald tire, and idleing in the desert during summer there not worth it.
If your there and your happy give it time they will get to you they just have not yet. Besides there do wash the trailer policy leaves you pulling crap down the road. -
Powder you are 11 western and that is like a whole different company. You are flat wrong about chaining. Ive chained twice the last two winters. You are the Captain of your own ship and it sounds like you didnt run a tight one.

KBar is correct. You probably wont retire from May, but it is a great place to get a year or two over the road.

Kabar Thanks this.
