Ok... it may be "kewel" to use your hardware with a WiFi connection in Starbucks, but when you're driving a truck in this day and age it's a real tool. So you need a real connection. Do yourselves a favor, pay for a serious cell connection that supports an air card. Verizon, AT & T or at the least Sprint. Chuck all of the "free minutes" or "free airtime" offers - they're just a smokescreen for a crappy network.

Air cards, the only way to go. Where ever your cell provider has a signal, you'll have a signal.
L.B. Thanks this. -
I'll say it again, if you have AT&T or T Mobile with a data plan on your cell phone buy an unlocked aircard (google "unlocked aircard") and you pay no extra to use the sim card from your phone to get on the internet. You can pick up an aircard for $60-$90 on the internet.
-
And that's the key... make sure you're going to get adequate coverage before you sign the contract. No cell tower, no signal - no internet.
-
wonder how I unlock the air card I allready have....not a bad idea the plan goes with the sim not the device..
-
depends on the make and model. a quick google search should point you in the right direction. I buy them already unlocked. Never had one under contract.
-
I googled these but the ones i found said they do not inlcue the sim. Am i missing something here i don't see how this saves you any money. what does having a data plan on your phone have to do with it? Confused.
-
If it's a verizon or sprint aircard, they do not take sim cards and can't be used like this.
-
thinking about buying the iphone my son allready has one........lol well im tired of paying for the poor service on my air card,, quick silver so you gave me an idea, or maybe just tethering another phone, unlocked air card on ebay 85.00 or so....

I have a Skype subscription and get unlimited long distance for $4/month. I think the sound quality on headphones is better than on cells and you can talk to anyone else that has Skype for free. It's also easy to record calls and add music to the conversation using a program called Pretty May.
Does it cost extra per month to be able to do this?
I have Verizon, so does that mean I can't tether my Storm?
And Ironpony, how much does it cost if I get Verizon's internet for my laptop? Also, what is the speed and is there a limit to how much you can download? (Yarrrrrr
