Hi my name is Josh, I found these forums on google and thought they looked pretty good. I am currently driving local haul off for a demolition company and I am considering going over the road when I turn 21 in about 4 months and once I get the experience/money saved up I would love to buy my own truck. I have my hazmat, doubles/triples and tankers. I have been driving for about 2 years. My girlfriends brother is the one who got me into trucking, I never considered it, I was very bad at driving cars (I drove motorcycles for the most part up intill then) and didn't believe I would last a day driving 18 wheels of death... Well I ended up loosing my job at the time and he told me he would teach me how to drive, ALOT of hard work and ### kissing later I am finally with a decent company driving a nice truck and actually making money. However the pay is slowly getting worse and I would like to buy a house so I want to go where the money is. I love the company I am in, they are one of the strongest in town and treat you pretty good but there is just not enough work. Currently I have only driven end dumps, and belly dumpers. well that is it I guess

Well, MackDog, I would say stay where you're at for now. OTR trucking is in a funk right now. The problem with any sort of construction trucking is the ups and downs. But, you are working, right? Do you want to jump ship and then make even less money? Plus, consider the age aspect. Most companies want 23 year olds. Just think it through.

hi MackDog I would tell you the same, to stay where you're at for now thing are down everyware. Pay is dropping for a lot of drivers. when things start to get better then think about it again.

... how about flatbed hauls but still staying in Texas I here that hauling to and from Lorado, Austin, Ft. Worth ect is pretty good but would you recommend it?

You need to talk to flatbedders that only run Intra TX. I have heard flatbedding in general is in a funk. You are wise to do internet research, but be ever so careful before you jump ship. Just a little advice...Good luck
