To All:
I was not offended by any statements made. I drive a small car and have a 10 month old daughter and think that SUV drivers are horrible. I don't believe that large SUV's should be allowed to be sold. Either that, or drivers of large SUV's shoud have to take a different type of driving test.
I thank you all for your sympathies!
I was doing a google search for newspapers containing the accident, when this thread popped up. I am not sure why, but when I saw someone, other than my family, speaking of the accident, I had to respond. I had to type it all out. It is probably unfair to your site, as it should be just for truck drivers to communicate, but I had to. I wish I could explain. I felt like someone had to know what happened and the truth about what happened. The newspapers made them out to just be "another accident", but they are people, a family. We did find out today, they all three suffered blunt force trauma upon impact. As strange as it sounds, that made me feel better to know they did not suffer.
I think about what Mr. Banks could be going through, knowing that he killed a family. I could never put myself in his situation or imagine what he is feeling. I don't hate anyone, and I am not angry. It was an accident and though I will probably never know why, at least I know how.
I apologize for taking up space on this site, but it helped me alot. My family will be "coming home" on Wednesday. And I hope we can all finally rest!
I thank you all and appreciate the administrator/moderator of the site for allowing me to use it as kind of a healing tool.

Jennette,
This site is for everybody, not just truckdrivers. We welcome everybody, man, woman and child.
We are safety conscious and try to promote truck safety. It angers me that your family was killed, just as it angers me when my own family's life is threatend by a Moron regardless of what he is driving.
You are welcome here. -
Jennyret:
The VZW family is sharing your pain and sorrow. We lost a good friend and co-worker and our collective sadness shows just how much he, Christine and Nikki are missed. Our sympathies and prayers are with you always. -
Jeannette:
I'm glad you found some sort of comfort here. Although I'm new to this forum and the trucking industry as a whole, this incident has made me realize the impact we all have on each other. Both positive and negative. Not sure if that'll make sense to anyone but, it did to me.
BTW, I was listening to the radio this afternoon and another accident was reported in the same area. It was not reported on the nightly news so I'm assuming it wasn't fatal. Makes me wonder if PennDOT's organization of the construction zone will come under investigation. -

My sister and nephew were killed in an almost identical accident on I70 in Ohio on August 3, 2005. The only real difference is that there was no construction, but an accident up ahead that brought traffic to a stop. She came to a stop behind a truck, and then was crushed from behind by another semi that failed to even slow down. In our case, a huge fire was also the result.
All the details were very vague. The police work was sloppy and we still don't have all our answers. Hopefully, the PA police will be more thorough and effective than the officers in Ohio.
When I read about your brother's accident (I live near the location of the accident), I was struck by how similar the circumstances were. I have been thinking almost constantly about you....the family of the victims. I have lived what you are now going through.
If you would like to communicate with someone who has been through this, please email me privately at ***I removed the email address, It is not permitted to put and email in your post,*******kc0rey*******You may not feel like it now, but please....at any time....I will listen.
My deepest sympany to you and your family.

The odd thing is every body started jumping on the SUV bandwagon without even know what the facts were. Then when that didn't work someone mentioned that Penndot may need to analyze the construction zone policys, but the only one that really saw this as it really was is KCOREY. It is simply another case of a driver (whether it be a tractor trailer, straight truck, car, motorcyle, bus, motorhome, suv doesn't matter), but simply another driver not paying attention and crashing into the rear of a stopped vehicle. His negligence to his responsibility of controlling his motor vehicle directly caused the death of 3 innocent people and he will have to live with that for the rest of his life. People need to pay attention to the road conditions at ALL times and stop tailgating, talking on the phone, I've even seen tractor trailer drivers with mini dvd players playing movies on their dashboards. My condolences to Jennyret and her family.

First of all I'd like to say that as the Step-Daughter of Mr. Banks, Jenny our family has been torn to shreds as well. We have cried since 11/3 and continue to do so EVERYDAY for your family's incredible loss.
Believe it or not, b/c some people here like kc0rey would leave you to believe that our family doesn't grieve for your family or that Mr. Banks is some moron who just came barreling down the road and killed an innocent family! Trust me he/she doesn't know what the Hell they are talking about and frankly, should be ashamed of his/herself for making claims accusations w/o ANY FACTS! You know what they say about people who assume! I'll leave you all to fill in the rest!
Secondly, Jenny a word of advice, this is a criminal/civl investigation -- as such it would behoove you to steer clear of discussing what you may or may not know about this accident! It just the smart thing to do! If these people want "facts" let them continue to read the erroneous information the media continues to spew!
Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen! -
I did not say that your family should/would not grieve.
My statement was, "What this means is the the vehicle that rear ended the other vehicle is at fault. AUTOMATICLY! Nothing in the police report will indicate differently. This driver should be charged with every death and he should go to prison for a very long time."
That is all and I stand by it.
I am a former driver with more then 20 years experience and no chargeable accidents. I have seen so many of these accidents it makes me sick. Fortunately it is rare that the big truck is at fault. When a vehicle rear ends another vehicle the fault goes to the guy who did not stop. Why he was unable remains to be discovered.
If your Step Dad is negligent he should go to prison. Personally, had I killed any children I would shoot myself in the head. Only your step dad knows what happened. It is up to him to do the right or wrong thing.
Lastly, why on earth do you feel that you are in a position to give Jenny advice on what to talk about? She, like you are welcome here. -
Kc,
B/c its a criminal investigation thats why! and another thing your wrong in your assertion that everytime a car is rear ended its the driver that rear ends the vehicle's fault! Obviously, as you have proven here quite a few times, you don't know what the hell your talking about b/c its not AUTOMATIC!
Now like I said to Jenny, this is a CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION and I was giving her advice from a criminal standpoint, if she chooses to discuss the "facts" of the accident, more power to her!
Good Day!
