So I am a month and a half into trucking school at NTTS. I have my permit. We are starting to learn shifting and double clutching soon. I graduate in December. Had to do part time course because of my full time job.
The school has its core companies that recruit you right out of school. H.O. Wolding, Gympsum Express, US Xpress, etc. I know Wolding has a short haul hourly position for Northeast drivers only. Out a few days and back.
Anyways, I’m not sure I believe the old adage that you need OTR experience to get a local job. I’m in the Syracuse, NY area. I’ve done some research but I’m curious if anyone here in the area knows of some other companies that will hire locally out of school.
Thanks.

My dad actually worked for this company for 2 years before moving to Florida! Didn’t even see this add! Thanks!!!Chinatown Thanks this. -

TugHillRider and WesternPlains Thank this. -
Good ole Syracuse. hehe.... Mothers family from there. Grandparents and Uncle had houses at 210 and 212 Washington Square. Less than 4 years of age. We lived across from Electronics Park. I know it's a ghost town now. Many vacations. Many memories. Playing golf at Green Lakes. First Golf at a little executive course (maybe it was 3 par?) by the Fairgrounds.
Remember.... when you retire to Florida. You gotta get a golf cart in the style of a truck. Just gotta.TugHillRider, FlaSwampRat and Intothesunset Thank this. -

How far is Cortland from where you live? Alnye is a large milk hauler and I believe they are in that area. -
My dad worked for Upstate for about 20 years before moving to Florida. Was a typo earlier when I said 2 years. I think I could get in possibly.
I’m a ways from Cortland. I’m north of Baldwinsville. I was thinking of Wadhams in Phelps. I’m not afraid of a drive if the pay is worth it. I know you don’t start out at the top but you get what I’m saying. -
Never went otr and I do just fine.
DC818, Woodys, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this.
