NEED Help fellow Truckers

When you say "it looses its power" what power are you refering to? Electrical or engine horsepower/torque. Be a litttle more clear and we may be able to help ya. Tell us what conditions cause this situation the most and if there are any check engine lights or sounds.

 

Could be many things. You need to be more specific though. What is happening, any idiot lights that show, the order they show...etc etc.

Does it totally shut down? Gradually slow down? Puff black smoke.

Any symptom at all will help.

 

Sounds like a turbo issue. Intercooler maybe ?? Even a possible fuel issue...water, partially clogged line, air in the line. Maybe one of the mechs that haunt this forum can provide you with some additional insight.

Have you had it hooked up for diagnostics yet? That's a good place to start, outside of fuel filter replacement.

 

sounds electrical, either a sensor going bad, wire loose/cut/rubbed through. the computer is derating the engine

 

Turbo maybe?

 

Have you check or toped off the coolant level. also oil level. if youe coolant level dips below the sensor this will through a check eng. light and derate eng. you pull over shut the key off and reset the computer mean while the coolant level pops back over the sensor. quick check just check the coolant level have had truck come in to arre shop ,many times for the same reason. connect the computer and find codes for low coolant derate.

 

It does sound like its derating but all the ones ive had derate will throw the check engine light.

 

there is a handheld device or laptop that can be used to check wat code it is throwing this will in turn tell wat is wrong carry it to a sensible mechanic and get a diagnostic on it
