Well in my personal experience i've never heard of heard of or worked for a company that would not allow you to log LEGALLY. Not saying your wrong but if i was told told i couldn't split log which is complete legal i'd have to question who i was working for. JMO

I used to split log to get to docks before traffic. I turned in the log correctly done. Was called back in and they had me correct the log to show 10 hour break.

The safety stated that they only will allow the driver to take a full 10 hour break.

Best to not argue with them and do it the way to make them happy.

O.K. let me question it .
I run regional , usually 2 day trips and the terminal is 10 minutes from my house .
All loads are dedicated and most preloade . When I'm empty I go home .
I'm guaranteed $.40 a mile for all miles , bobtail , deadhead whatever and most loaded miles are more .
Unload times are specified at 2 hours in the rate . Beyond that I get detention time .
It's tanker . Most of the time the customer uses their pump and hoses and I don't touch a thing .
We are told family emergencies get priority .
We usually have 2 or 3 hours extra time to get to a delivery . But we are told if we get tired , park it . There has never been any punitive action against any driver that was late because he felt too tired to go on and stopped to sleep .
I am allowed unlimited use of my company cell phone for personal calls .
Before they enter any load for any driver into the system they e-mail the driver the load and ask if he wants to accept it .
BUT THEY WON'T LET ME SPLIT LOG !!! :biggrin_2551:
Maybe I should look for something better where I can split log .

Well as i said IN MY OPINION i would have to questions a company that would not allow you to LEGALLY LOG however you needed to.

Best not to argue and do it the way it makes them happy:biggrin_25517:? Whatever, if i'm legal i could care less what they say. This is one reason we as truck drivers are treated like worthless pissons cause nobody wants to stand up for themselves they just do whatever they are told like good little ########. Well maybe i'm hard headed or whatever but I don't play that way. I speak my mind and I call ##### exactly that.

I didn't say look for another job. I also said I ( meaning if it were me, that rules YOU out ) Not sure why you would ever need to split log anyway so it really doesn't apply to you. I'm talking about people that this would ACTUALLY APPLY to like OTR drivers. Obviously NOT YOU.

See , you don't know . It could apply to me . Our trailers are supposed to be preloaded . We have on shipper that is bad about releasing trailers late in the afternoon for 7 a.m. delivery 500 miles away . Yeah , I could be there by 11 p.m. I've done it , took 8 hours sleeper , unloaded then took another 2 hours sleeper . It was written as a violation . After that I told dispatch if I get that load again it has to be ready by 1 p.m. or it'll be late . I'll stop close to there , take my 10 hours , and it'll get there when it gets there . Some drivers have unloaded while showing still in the sleeper to get their 10 . The Qualcomm showed their truck running to air off the load . Corporate sent copies of their logs to all the terminals .

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but as I stated before I was stating rhyme and reason for lv_gn who had asked to better understand split logging. You have now turned it into YOUR specific situation which helps him in no way at all. I was not speaking to your specific situation i was speaking as a general rule of thumb but obviously everyone interprets it their own way. My point when i said " i would have to question who i was working for" was meant as, if they ( the people in charge of logging that would give you a violation for legally logging split sleeper ) then i would question whether that person or persons should have the position they do or maybe they need to be trained fully on the actual DOT regulations to fully understand that what you did was not a violation. I guess i'll have to start spelling out my statements in a full paragraph explanation from now on.

    If you think about it.

He said he understood the 14 hour rule.

If he understands the 14 hour rule, then I was trying to let him know he knew the answer.

It was not meant to be any other way.
