Hello, I have been driving passengers professionally for 20 years and have now been offered a job driving a motor coach converted to a mobile office for a congressional campaign. I have a couple questions and I have been searching for weeks for answers. Please help! 1) How can I find a personal trainer to help me pass the CDL Road Test , on our bus, in South Florida? I know the limitations of not getting my CDL through an accredited school, but this is for a very specific job for a very specific amount of time. We are willing to pay someone to train me for the road test, but not $3,000 for a school, since this is a short term position(1 year). If interested, the trainer could stay on for the remainder of the year, as we will need a 2nd driver. 2) Will the insurance be higher if I obtain my CDL but do not complete a certified training program? Thank you for any advice you can give!!

Your CDL is whatever the States give you all the same as any other state, even if you went to a shade tree school or a 10,000 dollar silver spoon elite accredited school. The CDL is still going to come out the same. As anyone elses CDL around the USA.

Whoever owns the Bus is the one paying Insurance. If you are just driving it at their beck and call, don't worry about it.

I don't understand the differences between say a three axle Greyhound or a 3 axle puff yacht for congressional critters filled with office stuff. They all drive the same. Ive moved a few in my time but not something I would want to drive. It's same as trying to move a house for me believe it or not.

    what does "driving passengers" mean?

tells us nothing as to what you know how to drive or what training you need.

Why doesn't the campaign manager hire an experienced bus driver rather than schooling you to do the job?
Bet there's a few retired Grey Dog drivers who would do it.
Your claim of 20 years transporting people could mean you were a cab driver for 20 years.
Big difference between a taxi cab and a tour bus.

Its just driving, how hard could it be.

I know it wouldnt bother me to go flying down the road in a bus with a guy who just got his cdl and never bothered drive with a trainer.

Put her on big savage in a classic nor'easter ice storm followed by blizzard over the Grants.. then we separate those who can and those who aint got the spurs for it.

If I was gathering apps and found a old grey dog... hes hired. Pretty much instantly. Introduce him to the Mr Say so and wish them good luck.

I'm not really sure if I offended anyone, if so , I apologize. Yes, I have been a cab driver for 20 years. Yes, I understand it is not the same as driving a truck, or in this case, a bus. I do understand the necessity for training and the need to be trained by a professional so that I can pass a competency test, as all CDL holders must. The campaign wants to train me because I am part of the team and it is something I want to do. Everyone must start somewhere, this is where I will start. I have read many posts in favor of being trained by an experienced driver rather than a school, the drawback being less likely to gain employment -which is not an issue here. I was hoping that with all the experienced drivers in this organization, someone could suggest a place or site or chat room to find a personal trainer. When you refer to "old grey dog", I assume you mean a retired Grey Hound driver? Any recommendations on how to find these drivers?
