Most of which get to go home every night and sleep in comfort by setting the thermostat to their liking.

A/C is still considered a luxury for many Americans. I know of many folks young and old that do not have central air and use open windows and box fans.

Our elders did very well without a/c as well.

Have we as a society become so accustomed to our "comforts" that we have forgotten how to rough it?

If you feel so strongly about idling a truck for your comfort you may want to consider one of 2 things.

1st would be; buy your own truck and idle to your hearts content. After all then YOU will be the one paying for the fuel, the extra wear on the engine, and the possible fines from idling in states that prohibit idling.

2nd; would be research alternative companies to work for that do have apu's already installed on their trucks and apply for a job there.

i LOVE cold weather. i usually dont run my truck unless it's below 25 (co policy to run it below that)
got 2 sleeping bags, wear sweats while sleeping. great for my sinuses! HOWEVER, during times when it's above 75 or so outside i idle. i absolutely cannot sleep when it is 75+ outside.
sometimes i get up in the early AM hours and shut it off once it is cooler.
the biggest thing i see here is CO's are not looking at the "big picture"
they take the idle % readings every XXX (2 weeks in my case) and use that.
so if you are allowed say..40%...
if you run 6 mo at 20% then why the hell should you not catch a break for running higher later on?
maybe an overall idle % time????

There is a 3rd option. Go to work for a company that hasn't low balled their rates, and allows their drivers to maintain the cab at a comfortable level during breaks. Without an APU or idle aire.

Anything over 65 degrees puts my truck on idle mode. Thankfully, my company doesn't mind. But then again...we're not hauling cheap freight. And we have ONE shareholder.

    Flyer Thanks this.

thanks alot for all your help! not too many people would go to the lengths for a complete stranger such as you have done. i will call s&h tuesday and speak to them directly and beg them for a job...i am really surprised that i have had such difficulty in finding another job...looking baack, i wish i had not listened to other barr nunn drivers who told me to disregard messages relating to idle time:biggrin_25510: i had never driven solo before and had never had problems in that area because i never sat for five-six days between loads...i believe that (sitting so much) is the primary reason thier computer told them i had such a high idle percentage...i dunno, lesson learned, i guess..

screw idle times! if you sat that long for a load, there is the problem. i never sat longer than a day (20 hours to be exact) to wait for a load

well, this just keeps getting better and better...i did talk to S & H like you suggested, and the nice lady there informed me that my app was denied because get this, Barr Nunn has falsely reported on my DAC report that i had an unreported accident:biggrin_25510:(which never happened!)
this furthur explains why i have had a devil of a time finding a new driving job...now i have to go through the tedious process of disputing the info and having it removed, but this is one more testament to the fact that companies are more corrupt than ever! i think i am done with all of this...i have no desire to have my reputation slung through the mud like this...thanks again for all you have done, Rocky
