That is a great plan if you have your hazmat but you have to realize that if you need to renew your hazmat within a couple of years, your twic card is only going to be good for that time. So not only do you have to renew your hazmat but also your twic at the same time. Is it really worth it to save $28.00 at this time. For the TMC drivers out there, they will pay for your TWIC card and deduct 3 weekly payments from your check.
Tmc now requires drivers to get passport and port card

They WILL pay for some TWICs. I think the catch is you must be on a dedicated account. DH got a letter in the mail that needed to be signed and returned for reimbursement.

A tank division is totally wishful thinking on my part. Doubt we'll ever see it, but I bet the rigs would look sharp.
Hmm, 3 stoplights...so, Elmira/Horseheads area? Or were the stoplights not on 17/86? My upstate-NY geography isn't that great, I'm a displaced Long Islander -
Yup, those would be the 3 stoplights lol. Insignificant now, though, with the new overpass open and functioning.
So TMC will reimburse some drivers TWIC costs and will loan then deduct from others? If they're requiring it of all drivers then wouldn't it be fair and less drama causing to either pay for or deduct across the board? I think that they should've suggested existing drivers with at least 6 months or more seniority there get it, while mandating those with 6 months or less and new hires to acquire it, or something like that. Hell, what do I know, I'm trying to make sense of things again. I think I'm glad my hubby didn't get in with TMC now, sounds like a new change monthly lately, if they are due for a new change I hope it's a favorable one this time instead of taking/costing more to you, their drivers. -
You don't want them to reimburse you. He didn't return the letter. They want you to forfeit your TWIC if you're fired or quit. We considered the TWIC a cost of his career choice and we'll write it off at the end of the year, if we can do that.

But that's your card, your fingerprints, your everything, despite who pays for it...goodness gracious oy!
I mean I can understand it IF you were to get your TWIC, get the money from them, then try to quit right away...but still say you are there for a year past the time of getting the card and they decide to let you go or whatever...it should be yours free and clear then.

That's what we thought too! I don't see where they can make you, even with signing the paper.
They might have meant it that way, but with the wording on the paper the way it was it's better just to foot the bill ourselves to be sure. JMO, but I think that eventually everyone will have to have the card. He needed to get it, be it to use with TMC or someone else.Last edited: Jun 11, 2009

TWIC is no big deal, and may serve a purpose...Passports on the other hand, well I ain't going across any borders (North or South) and if a company said I had to I'd seek employment elsewhere.
