Flatbed with metal sheets hides 1,200 pounds of pot

Border patrol agents say they busted a Mexican trucker who was hauling more than $1 million worth of marijuana, all hidden in hollowed-out stacks of metal plates on his trucks flatbed.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the El Paso port of entry seized 1,213 pounds of marijuana on June 4 after a 1991 Freightliner pulling a flatbed arrived from Mexico at the Bridge of the Americas.

An officer referred the truck for an X-ray examination. The Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System confirmed anomalies in stacks of metal plates on the flatbed, according to a statement from Customs and Border Protection.

Agents estimated the drugs value at $1,031,050.

According to a news release, no arrests were made from the bust although the investigation continues.
