I live 1 hour north of Indianapolis and there are a lot of trucking companies there but it is an hour drive there and an hour back which is okay, but for example let say I run up north of my house. Chicago area , Michigan etc.... Seems it would make sense especially if low on hours to park at my house and then do the hour drive in the morning.
I have not started driving yet but just looking for companies that allow you to take the truck home if you have parking.
Companies that let you take the truck home ?

Companies dont want you or their truck at a terminal/yard. They want it out on the road making $. So no they're not going to route you to a yard to park the truck for a couple days. Hell the only time Ive been to our main yard in the last few weeks was to pick up my new truck. Otherwise I wouldn't have any reason to be there.

A lot of companies will let you take the truck home, however some only allow it if you live over X miles from a terminal or drop yard (Schneider used to be this way, no clue if they still are). Easiest thing to do would be to call the company recruiters and ask them about their policy. The key thing is what type of driver you will be. In terms of freedom, owner ops have the most (company can't dictate much since it's YOUR truck), then leasers, and company drivers have the least. As a company or lease driver, the main thing companies look for is security. They wont like you parking *their* truck at home if the truck can't be in a secure location close by, they likely will ask for details about the location you want to park at such as address, business name (if applicable), and distance from home and might look up the location on google maps to see if it looks secure. For example, they may not want you parking at a walmart 5 miles away for hometime, anybody could break into the truck and you wont be close by if needed, but would be fine if you could park it in your driveway or a place that's a few min walk from your home.
TransAm and JCT let you take the truck home. I can't think of any other companies offhand but there are two privately owned businesses (not truck stops) near my home and I have seen other drivers that live in the area parking for home time.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Also parking the truck at a company yard greatly simplifies truck maintenance. Maintenance can be done during your off time instead of burning hours on the road while you wait for a shop to finish. Just ask any company you are interested in. Make sure you ask someone at the company that would know. Recruiters don't know what trucks are.Dennixx Thanks this. -
Stevens let's you take the truck home, only reason I know that is my neighbor drives for them and he brings the truck home.

WEL does... Or at least they did 2 years ago when my father in law retired from them.
