"But he said the trucking industry in effect would get a new highway and truck drivers could save money by using a toll road that is safer and shut down less often."
Who are they kidding?
"If your dollar savings from having less days shut down and your accident record improves, then we've paid you back many times for the tolls you're going to pay," he said.
Tolls are being considered to supplement funding to maintain the highway.
A typical section of I-80 in Wyoming carries about 13,000 vehicles a day. About half of those vehicles are heavy truck traffic."
There at it again lets have half pay for everyone.
sounds like a obama plan,

State studies I-80 trucker tolls
5/12/08
CHEYENNE -- In a push to secure new highway funding sources, state transportation officials are exploring whether commercial truckers should be required to pay tolls to use Interstate 80.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation has commissioned a study on the topic. The study will also examine public-private highway ownership partnerships, said Doug McGee, spokesman for the agency.
It's part of an effort to explore alternative ways to pay for I-80 maintenance in light of flat or decreasing federal highway funding and rapidly escalating numbers of commercial trucks on the deteriorating interstate highway.
"What we are really talking about is tolling trucks. That is the initial discussion," said Sen. Michael Von Flatern, R-Gillette, chairman of the Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs Interim Committee, which is helping to coordinate the effort.
"The main reason is that the feds are cutting back on their support for the states and also saying, 'You better think outside the box on highway funding,'" he added.
Von Flatern, who led an unsuccessful bid last year to raise the state gasoline tax, said it's early in the process, but he estimates that commercial truckers could eventually pay from $40 to $80 to cross the roughly 400-mile width of Wyoming on I-80. -
Smart, real smart. They can't afford to do maintenance on the existing road but they can afford to build a brand new highway for trucks. Fuzzy math at best.
-
Ok....I'll pay the toll if they keep the road open by clearing the snow and ice off...and if not...don't drop the gates and turn me around....I have a hot load........
-
How is it going to be shut down less ? are the going to enclose 400 miles of 80 I don't think so
