I started my carrier at HO 32 years ago , Herb the owner just died at I believe 100, then it was sold to Bison out of Canada.
They do things way different than anyone I ever worked for , they run off size tires etc and used to take a dry van and make a reefer out of it with there Amish mechanics.
There checks were always good , they used to make us run us30. To the east coast no tolls , I went to diesel driving school , Sun Prairie , Wi it was 14 weeks long and you lived there , HO hired me there and I went right to work no trainer , first load Pensauken, NJ SCARED TO DEATHChinatown Thanks this. -

Look at UPS Freight, Old Dominion, Fedex Freight, Estes, Reddaway, YRC, etc, they are LTL carriers. Often they have entry-level Dock positions and if you work out they have a Dock-to-driver program. Most positions home every day and the first ones on that list pay better than most OTR.
UPS Freight does start low and take years to reach good pay, but then is one of the highest. So they might not be the best if you need cash now.
There are also smaller regionals with their own quirks, like DATS, DHE, Oak Harbor, and MVE. They pay less and will likely have older equipment.
If you already had a year of driving any commercial vehicle you could work for a Fedex Ground contractor for somewhat less money but easier entry.
