Hey, I drove for 5 months for CRST before, but got screwed over and quit (and now i realize i probably shouldve just dealt with starving for 3 more months instead of leaving..meh..). Anyway, I've spent the last 8 months not trucking, and just absolutely struggling to exist because the economy is so bad in my area, there arent really any regular jobs left with openings.

But...Covenant told me they'd hire me, and I'd have to drive teams for the first month because I'm 1 month short on their experience for solo. CRST really made me hate teaming, but .. I can deal with it for just 1 month! Or two.

I also just got a girlfriend recently, and I've never had one of those while i was trucking before. What on earth is she going to think about this? I don't want to lose her over this, but ... I haven't been with her for long enough to throw oppurtunities like this away, you know. I haven't driven a truck since thanksgiving, so i thought i'd never be able to get a trucking job again, to be honest.

Also, I have a pretrial and jury trial in about a month after i'll start with covenant. I'm being charged with misdemeanor assault and battery, but the charges will be dropped because the false witnesses moved very far away from the county it happened in, and it will not be possible for them to come. Besides that, the court doesnt know where they are. And even if they did show up, I'll win because i'm innocent. But..will covenant even hire me with something like that going on? It's two months until the trial, and it seems like freight'll probably start slowing down again in two months? Covenant's requirements don't mention misdemeanors at all, as far as i see.

You need to be upfront and explain your situation with 100% honesty. They will find out and if you attempt to hide it, they will terminate you and put it on your DAC which will kill any chance of hiring on with someone else.

Ok. I wasn't going to be dishonest with them, for one simple fact (Well, i mean, besides what you said): If I miss that court date, i will go to jail and be charged with contempt! It feels like i'd be better off just waiting until after the court date though.

    Snipped.

Don't fool yourself and not be prepared.. DA's DO NOT CARE if you are innocent. They care about wins and losses. Your just another number in the system. Courtrooms no longer belong to the people, they belong to the lawyers and many "deals" have been made without consideration of the accused. Unfortunately this country has flipped from its belief of "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" Now the exact opposite is true. Not trying to rain on your parade just hope that you will not go to court with rose colored glasses on. Good Luck.

    You want my honest opinion?

Dump the girlfriend... get a local job (at McD's if you have to)... get the court thing straight... THEN worry about going back to driving.

5mouths2feed, I know. The whole thing has smelled very wrong all the way from the way the initial police reports were handled. i am going to show up prepared.

Barcode, the local economy is total crap, to be honest. I'm doing what i can to get local jobs, and infact have one (but its not paying very well). And why do i have to dump the gf to have a local job? I think you're right about waiting for the court stuff to be cleared up though.

Because she adds (or will once the newness wears off) drama you don't need right now. Lol, but I really don't expect you to take that advice... you're only 22 and I been there once.:biggrin_25525:

You should be asking her this question, not us. I'd lay it on the table for her tonight. Explain exactly what is involed with driving a truck..."sweetie you'll only be seeing me a couple of days every 2 or 3 weeks". Then if she says no, then you have to decide between her and trucking...follow your heart or your wallet. Good luck.

Ya gotta eat....love dont pay the bills....but it is easier to find someone now while you're still not on the road. I'd take the opportunity to develop a relationship with her and straighten out the legal problems before going on the road..

Straighten out your legal problems first. That needs to be behind you before you take off cross country. Once that is out of the way, then decide if your girlfriend is cut out to be a trucker's girl.
