$1000.00 per month as a Teamster? Are you sure about that? What local was it?

I am a Teamster driver and I am paying $65.00 per month with a $5.00 co-pay. This covers myslef, my wife and two kids. Medical, dental and vision is all included.

    Something isn't right here.

    Drive safe

I started in December and got let go in March. So.....yes. They are treating drivers like race horses. If you are not perfect, you are replacable.

Nope, not illegal. Iowa is an At Will state. Either party, company or employee, can terminate employment without any notice. It doesn't make it right, but it's not illegal. There are several exceptions to this, such as firing for discrimination among others, but I don't see where they broke any of the exceptions.

I know that in January TMC cut down their hiring area and laid off a bunch of drivers that lived in those areas. They hire all the time and fire or drivers quit at about the same pace. You can't make too many mistakes with TMC. I do a dedicated run for them and 2 drivers have quit to go to "greener" pastures. One I lost contact with and the other is now working for a crap local company making nothing. TMC isn't that bad when you look at the economy.

Yes and no, the benefits of being union far outweigh the negatives, particularly with trucking. You have a collective bargaining agreement which generally give you much better pay packages, and probably more importantly than anything you have a grievance procedure.
Local 786 which is Chicago Teamsters part of Joint Council 25. I don't know how your contract is structured but ours sounds a bit different. When we negotiate a new contract for example our last contract, the money you get is split up. Our last contract was a 5 year contract with a pay raise of $1.75/hr each year for five years. Now of that $1.75/hr we would see about $.75/hr on our paycheck (if you were making $28.00/hr the following year you would be paid $28.75/hr) while $.40/hr would go towards our pension and $.60/hr would go towards health and welfare (medical, dental and vision insurance). Over the years that adds up to a large sum of your contracted hourly earnings going towards your insurance and pension. So we are not actually sending a check to pay for our insurance they are just taking it right off the check before you ever see it. It's a weird setup but the end result is a bit over a grand a month for insurance, our Cobra coverage was a little over $900/mo. last time I was sent the paperwork. The insurance itself was excellent, but we were paying out the wazoo for it. The past half dozen years the amount of our contracted raise that goes to health and welfare has been steadily increasing.

believe me I have dealt with unions my whole life. My dad was in the UMW and go look in WVA or KY and see what that union has done to them. Go to Pitt. PA and see what The USWA has done to that city. More power to anyone that works a union job, But when things get real bad see who the look out for then.
