I am sure that L/O have there share of accidents as well probably not as many as a company driver for one reason they have to pay to have there truck fixed so they take a little more care.

I know JJ's old trainer Paul had a student take out a set of Lights or something with the trailer and student decided after that he wasn't meant to drive a truck and quit.

Central is a reasonably big company with a training school and there will be accidents as long as there letting 60-80 students out a month! :biggrin_2554:

Jess, you are right about letting the students go through. We are down 2 more as of today. 1 was the older gentleman that was questioning if he wanted to drive and the other just didn't want to anymore. I was in a different group today and the one girl that is in our class definitely has no business driving. She did not get to go making turns in SLC. She has no idea how to upshift or downshift and to make matters worse, the instructor let her drive back after me and the other person in our group were done driving. She was rolling forward in nuetral coming up to an intersection connecting to I-80!!! 2 days driving and she still can't control a truck!?!?! That's an accident waiting to happen. I'm not saying i'm the best but I control my truck when I come up to a stop light/sign. We went from an 9 speed to a 10 speed today and that threw me for a couple of shifts but I caught on and didn't let the truck out of control. I seriously have never been that scared in any type of vehicle in my life. I was sitting in the back with my sealtbelt on and squeezing the seatbelt in between my hands so hard that when we got back to the terminal, I had indentations in my hand. The instructor noticed and I told him that I did not want to be in her group tomorrow. We will see. It may sound trivial to some people, but not to me. I value my safety and the safety of others. If there ever came a time where I was that dangerous, I would hang it up quick. Tomorrow is 1/2 day city driving/turns and 1/2 day doing manuvers in the practice area.

    jess-juju Thanks this.

    Very informative post thanks Bullet!

Funny you should say that!! JJ and I were talking today about a student who was in JJ's refresher class and JJ said he near crapped himself when that guy got to drive on the road he was terrible and John told the instructor in front of the guy I WILL NOT GET IN THE TRUCK WITH THAT IDIOT! The guy complained to Central because JJ called him an idiot :biggrin_2552:
The idiot failed and was sent home THANK GOD!

Its scary when you are a passenger with someone who isn't safe I taught my son to drive and that was plenty scary enough for me, he still makes me nervous :biggrin_2556: But I must have taught him a little because he has his CDL in Australia and carts Cattle and Sheep around in his spare time and has been 5yrs without even a scrape on the truck or so he tells me!

I have a feeling that quite a few people are going to fail on Friday. Most of them are learning and catching on quick but a few....:biggrin_25512: Hell, I could fail too but at least I know that I never put any of my passengers safety at risk while I was upshifting/downshifting. They have been marking down all the tests we have passed/failed since last Friday and so far(knocking on wood) I have passed them all. Passed the coupling/uncoupling test today so all that is really left is Pre Trip and road test.

Finally finished my move to Idaho. Living in Garden City now so I'm actually just up the road from Jess and JJ. Getting my BP under control and after reading this and other threads decided to finally put my app into Central today. And with advice from all here, didn't leave anything off of it. I've heard some having troubles getting a recruiter to get them a start date. Hoping to not have that problem. Have BP medication and a gym membership so I'll be ready to go withing the next week or two. If I get accepted I'll try to have the best woman on the planet (no offense ladies) sign up here. Hope you're all getting good miles out there.

Great, now they are giving me the run around on my late hometime pay & detention from last week.

They say I can't get detention because I left the shipper at one point & then went back. Well you don't have much of a choice, they won't give you the papers until you scale & come back. I got to that place at 7am & didn't get loaded until like 4pm local, due to the bad appt. time in the load info.

If anybody is sent to Nogales, AZ to pickup from Nogales fruit make sure to call them first to get your appt. My info said 8am, but the shipper won't start loading trucks until 11am & even that don't really matter. Your load is coming from Mexico so they really have no idea when it will show up. I picked up the load last Monday, but it had a Thursday appt. & some poor driver sat down there until Saturday before they took the load off of him & gave it to me.

JJ has a four drop Freddy load today. Nampa, Garden city, Boise and Idaho falls! He will be having a ten hour break in Idaho Falls and then hopefully getting a load back this way for his home time on Friday.

So how are you liking the Lovely Idaho??????

    Hey everyone -
I've been reading this thread for a while and decided on Central. I'm scheduled to start class in SLC on July 6th. I'm really looking forward to this.
Judging from the latest information that I've read here I'm guessing that I can hope to average around 2000 miles each week. Is that right? I'm also guessing miles should be pretty steady now until next winter. I think that's when things always slow down, right?
I've learned a lot reading your post's, really appreciate all the info.
