They are building a intermodal site south of Roanoke, the next county over. They say it will reduce the trucks in the area. But no one has been able to tell me how. You have to have truckers to bring the trailers or boxes to point A to put them on the train, and then you have to have trucks at point B to take them off and deliver. If the train is going to take 200 trailers from point A to point B, that would mean 400 truckers to deliver the trailers and pick up the trailers. That is a lot of trucks getting off of the interstate where they normally wouldn't get off. It seems more of a headache to me. Some companies may go along with it for a little while, but let the train wreck and they all lose those loads, or if the train is delayed. Companies want the stuff today, not in 5 days. I don't see it working
