Trucker's family files $7 million suit in Bay Bridge crash

If you or in this case the girl is sued for 7 million dollars and the court agrees, her insurance will only pay up to the limits involved.

However, realize that a judgement is entered into for personal assets. Since the car was driven by teen ager, it probably was owned by the parents. At this time, the parents assets are now entered into the judgement arena.

 

The walls on this particular bridge are not very tall. Just take a look at the picture. They are maybe 3 or 3 1/2 feet tall. I came over that bridge tuesday night, and all I could think of was that wreck. They had the south bound side closed and two way traffic on the north bound side. I'm sure that's what the traffic pattern was the night of the accident. There is absolutely nowhere to go on that bridge in a situation like that. You either do what Mr. Short did...which was most likely a reaction move on his part...or take the car head on, probably killing the occupents in that car plus taking out other cars behind it. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time...very sad.

 

She was 19 years-old. Her parents would not be liable in this. She shoud have to pay for her actions.

I know a teenaged driver in ATL who caused a wreck with a fatality while texting behind the wheel. She was found guilty of negligent homocide. Why wasn't this girl punished in the courts?

 

When I was 19, the car was still licensed in my parent's name. It was a car that was financed a year or so early. The banks would not run a loan in a name separated from my parents.

Also, where does she live?

Attorney's are great at finding resources. Don't write off the parents yet.

 

I live in Maryland under 21 its .02. I was outraged whe they decided not to prosicute her. The cops did not breathalyser on her or anything. Anyone of us we would be sitting in jail right now. I hope she has to pay for the rest of her life

 

The former state's attorney felt it was not enough to file criminal charges with. Maybe the current one should be petitioned to review it. Maybe they should look for money passing hands as well.

 

I did some reading on this and it appears that she was given a blood test. In my opinion, she was probably transported to a medical facility making it impossible to take a breath test. The PBT, portable breath test is not admissible in court, only the intoximeter that is at a barrack/station. I've been across that bridge before and it is a impressive structure.

In my opinion, I don't see any 19 year old with deep pockets and from what I have read it doesn't seem like her parents have them either. As some one posted earlier, the driver was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
