You've been around these parts long enough (and a few of you in this thread have....) never forget the humility and learning curve chewy 3 5 2 found out here. I think we ALL have (and maybe need?) one rude awakening.
Still, good job O/P. HUMILITY. SAFETY. << on equal planes.

You're OK, the car driver will be OK, the truck can be fixed. Nobody was killed. I'd say it was as good of a day as possible given the circumstances.
The real question is what did YOU learn from all this?
If you continue on as you had before, you gained nothing. But, hopefully it taught a lesson of some sort ( not implying you're a bad driver or anything).
I had a mishap here a while back, thankfully it was very minor, no injuries and the guy in the car took off. Even though I was clearly at fault. I did probably $6k in damage to his car, which looked pretty new. 19 years behind the wheel and a spotless record could've gone down the tubes had he stick around and did the right thing. But you better believe I'm alot more cautious when merging to the right nowadays.
So, take a minute to learn something from all this, and be thankful it wasn't any worse.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -

I have an old friend from the Slave Lake AB area who was in similar circumstances about 15 or 20 years ago.
A car ran a stop sign at a T intersection of a secondary highway going 60 mph and hit the fuel tank on my pal's passenger side as he was going about 60 mph, put him in the bush and out of sight from the highway.
He was trapped in the truck for 2 hours before they realized the truck was in the bush and they found him and another hour or two to cut him out of the cab.
Messed up his spine and internal organs pretty bad and he had to quit driving trucks, the driver of the car was dead when help arrived, probably on impact.
My friend was fortunate that his employer valued him and gave him a cushy job as a safety supervisor with a brand new diesel pick up truck to drive around in.
I think you did pretty well as far as outcome goes, hoping you can put it behind you and continue on as usual.

And I also bet the Insurance rates go up for the drivers company. I doubt the 4 wheeler is loosing any sleep over the problems, delays, and damages he has caused for the trucker and his company.
FlaSwampRat and buddyd157 Thank this. -
The car 'missed' a stop sign and hit you...at an intersection that (according to the news article picture) appears was pretty open. Sure. My money is on that he didn't miss it. He was either very distracted or just purposely ignored it and was trying to beat you across same as the idiots who race to get across railroad tracks before a train blocks them. Even without seeing the sign, your truck would likely have been visible from a distance.
Glad to hear you are alright.stillwurkin, rachi, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this.
