Franco is Correct in what he says.

The rest of you who posted, really have your blinders on. You're missing the mark.

Rick G, Franco didn't mention nor was the subject about cost of living.
Cheerios won't go up .10 cents, if a drivers wages are higher.
Believe me, Shippers are already paying out dearly for their products to be shipped. Have you been on that end to know this? Guess who's making the better profit?
Truck Drivers are the Back Bone of the Industry.. Where do you think these Office Workers in the Trucking Company is getting their paycheck from? Without the Drivers, these Office workers wouldn't be making money off of them.. besides, they're going home with more of a pay, then the drivers themselves.

His point of view, is, if you read his first post again, over the road drivers are being underpaid. And I Agree with that.

Sorry to say this, if all you Over the road drivers are happy with your pay, then thank your Lucky Stars.
Drivers in this day and age are getting the shaft from most Trucking Companies... The WAGES of OVER THE ROAD Drivers ARE LESS today!,
then they were back in the 1970's! YET the Cost of Living back then was Much Lower than today!
ON top of all this, I've been hearing from Many Drivers having their Pay Per Miles being cut down ...

One Driver Trainee told me he was getting Paid .11 cents a mile. With an average of 2800 miles per week would be $308 pay. After his meals,, what does he have left? After several weeks, this guy will get .18 cents per mile.
Give these Drivers a Freakn break! Now this is the Lowest of Lowest , I've seen in all my life. It use to be Years ago,, 20 something cents a mile.

Most Trucking Companies are a JOKE!
And it Doesn't Matter Where You LIVE.

I talk to So Many drivers out there, who has a wife and kids waiting for Him to come home,, with hard times and just about on the brink of divorce, with a Paycheck, that they can get, for the same amount, of be home daily with their family, if not more.
Give these drivers a decent pay, for what they go through.!!
Make their pay worth being out on the road , for what they go through.

I wish my dh was seeing checks of at least a thousand a week, but he isn't, maybe he'll be able to get a local job eventually.

Cost of living has everything to do with comparing local jobs with over the road pay . Franco makes more but his cost of living is higher . If he worked for a company in the south driving locally he would be making less than OTR drivers , not more . I know . I worked for a company in MA that opened branches all along the east coast . Drivers in NC and FL are paid less than the drivers in MA . There are good paying jobs out there . I am guaranteed $.40 a mile . The loads I pulled all week last week paid $.50 a mile . These drivers crying about pay were told before they were hired what the pay would be . If they are dumb enough to work for a company paying low rates like that they only have themselves to blame .

First, I would love to see all of the companies pay according to the way you are. It would be a major improvement.

But, what would happen to the cost of everything if they did?

Now, as far as your comment, they have themselves to blame, let them all leave these type of companies until the companies change. Won't happen.

You had the sense to leave the company you did . But they didn't have a problem replacing you . No doubt that driver is crying .

I had the sense. I have the income stability that does not require me to work at just any place.
    .
Many are working pay check to pay check. I have not worked that way since the mid 90's.

Not everyone cares about money, you know. Some of us drive because we want to. They could cut my pay in half, I wouldn't be happy about it, but I'd still drive because that's what makes me happy. I don't care if I could make more money at McDonalds and be home every night. I don't want to work at McDonalds. That wouldn't make me happy. Being home every night bores me. Sure, I'd like a pay raise. Who wouldn't? But I'm not wasting my time whining about it. I'm going to appreciate what I have instead of complaining about what I don't have.

You do realize you and your views are in the minority. If there were twenty drivers in a room 19 would agree with me.You would stand alone. It is not just the pay there are other factors. You chose to move away.My family and my home are here.I love where i live and have no desire to move to some backwoods state. You and drivers like you are what makes the industry what it is.Do not get me wrong i have had many good paying drivibg jobs. All of them local.I was home nightly and made the most money. As an over the road driver you have to pay for your food, laundry, and other necessities while on the road and pay your rent at home and bills. So what are vyou making? The National average is around .35 a mile.If this makes you happy good for you.I stand by what i say. When you talk to an over the road company you are lied to and promised alot of things to get you in the door.I am happy doing what i am doing now.I have a home life and make decent wages to live on.I would never go on the road again and if a new driver were to ask my advise i would tell them to stay away from over the road if they can. It's funny how alot of the drivers or so called drivers on here side with the rip off companies. The ones that lie to us.the ones that cheat us.This is why the industry is the way it is.We don't stick together and stand up for one another. For all the drivers out there,The real drivers with clean drivers records no offenses,no accidents,Hard working dedicated to your craft.I believe you are under paid that is why i posted.

Well, I got some time and miles under my belt and I agree with 1nonly. I could make more money with other companies and get job offers regularly to do just that. I like my company. I like my job. I like my boss, my lifestyle, my cost of living, my truck and my dog. In short, I am an OTR truck driver and I will do just as I dam well please. My company kisses up to me, not vice versa.

Just because something is perfectly sensible doesn't mean a truck driver is going to do it for heaven's sake. You have certainly been on the road long enough to know that. Underpaid? Not really, it pays enough to entice new ones and keep enough of the good ones, that is the nature of business.

    Thumper and 1nonly Thank this.
