The clowns running this disaster do not realize this.
I was at that meeting and its worse than $116, actually its $120 where they think traffic will start to find other routes. Never mind what I tried to tell them. The didn't believe me.
The cost to build ONE toll collection system is $13,000,000 using their figures. And they think they'll have that cost recouped so fast it will only be a drop in the bucket.
Currently they are talking about just one electronic toll collection booth in central/western WY where only thru traffic hits it. And then as they make money off of this to expand it to the state lines and to get off and get on ramps.
THERE WILL BE NO CASH OPTION!!!!!!!!!
There is way way too much push for the toll and not other options. They deny that, but its obvious.
WY has one of the lowest fuel taxes of any state, but they do not want to raise the fuel tax.
They think if they put this first collection point in BFE where there is very little population of voters and where it will nail those going all the way across the voters won't object to it so much.
My opinion of the meeting in Cheyenne................ buncha weasels!!!!!!!!!! when it came to the study group rep and the WYDOT rep, mostly a buncha weasels.

Interesting post there Brickman.
Put a toll collection in the middle of nowhere. Make it electronic. No idea what was paid.
There is no real alternative to I-80 when you say run from Chicago to Salt Lake City.
Your cost of operation is now say 120. Not to mention another transponder on the window.
How many things can consumer buy with the additional cost added on.
I know that alot of the freight that say goes to Portland, Or, I can elect to take alternative routes, but they will add time to the load.
Why not just bite the bullet and raise the fuel tax? -
Good questions and some of the same ones I asked.
No cost for a transponder. They'll have cameras to capture the license plate number and MAIL you a bill.
Their objection to raising the fuel tax is that the voters had a fit last time they tried and failed. Also that I-80 is the only road in the state with a lack of funding. If they raise fuel taxes they'll get diluted thru out the state and won't go to 80 which is where they feel the need is right now. They expect traffic numbers to double by 2025 and since 80 is in such bad shape now it'll be a cow trail by then if they don't get A LOT more money.
According to their numbers to properly fund I-80 thru fuel taxes alone the state would have to raise the fuel tax to .80 a mile. -
I tried my dead level best to convince them that their projected income is NOT going to be what they think it will be at $120 for a truck cross state trip. Many companies will run their drivers over 70 or 40 rather than pay the extra.
They didn't believe me.
Another reason I'm pissed at them is that for the last few years they've been CLAIMING that this would be a TRUCK ONLY toll. Well now its turned into a $12 toll for cars crossing the state too. If they've lied about that up until now, what else are they lying about??????????
They are STRESSING they aren't wanting to catch the locals in the tolling so that the voters don't get too pissed off.
This is the reason for the initial single tolling spot in BFE western WY where there aren't many voters, not enough to make a difference any way.
IF the toll thing goes thru we've got until 2015 to complain about it, and to look forward to it. -
I have noticed that there is a great flow of trucks and other vehicles hauling through the state.
I cannot imagine that the implementation of the toll would be an economic plus to the state. It might just force companies to ship through alternative methods.
It would certainly make me consider to move away from freight that crosses the state.
Mailing me a toll a week or so after I cross the state leaves me with a bill that the company I am leased to will not pay. If it cannot be turned in when settled, I am required to eat it. -
Other folks tried and tried to stress these points to the politicians.
It didn't sink in. Swear to God. -
68 aint that bad when you got a truck with balls.......... KITTY CAT power is where its at.
Last time I was over there was with 79000 lbs of lumber. Was not near what I had remembered it from my last trip over years before it in a badly underpowered VW rabbit. -
As you know, it's not the majority that affects things in the policital (note to self: remind to get spell check) arena. It is the very vocal minority that gets things done, often to the detriment of our country!!! -
Some thing happened to me. When I went trucking I got kicked off the VFD.
