I was reading the posts about the trainers and the issues of not teaching trainees how to log or backup. But doesn't some of the blame need to be put on the trainee? Isn't it also the trainee's responsibility to ask questions and keep asking questions until you get the answers you need. If the trainer isn't teaching you how to log or use the qual-com, isn't only common knowledge for someone in this industry to know these techniques. Therefore there has to be some blame of laziness on the trainee for not bringing it up and trying to get the answers they need. In a college classroon, if you don't understand how to do the calculus equation that the professor has put on the board, and you don't bother to ask them to explain it then you will get it wrong on the next test. This business isn't flipping burgers. We are responsible for moving thousands of dollars of merchandise using a HUGE vehicle that can easily hurt someone or something. The responsibility to find out everything that you need to know to do that properly and safely is up to you and if the trainer you've been assigned isn't giving you all the answers you need, then its up to YOU to take responsibility and get yourself a someone different. But in the end, solely relying on the trainer to tell you everything is a mistake. You and only you are responsible for yourself.

I did not hang up on you just lost my sigggggnal again LOL. -
The problem I have is that most students aren't realy cut out to drive a truck but those who have the motavation and drive do well and learn fast. I do teach backing as well as paper and paperless logs plus a recap to match the qualcom without a recap you might as well not even get out of bed. Those who no how to manage there time make the most amount of money. There are trainers who teach nothing except how to drive a truck so they can make money off of you and there are those who teach you how to run the truck. What you learn is up to you if you pick up on things fast and can remember what was taught your home free. -
Well the move is over! Hopefully will get the internet hooked up this week to get back to posting again. Just wanted to pop in and say happy father's day to all the dad's out there that can't be with their kids today!

A good trainer covers all of the major key responsibilities a new driver must learn like loging, backing, truck control, your required check calls you have to make, what to do in case of an accident or a break down, fuel proceedures and what to do in case a fuel card does not work or is lost.
it is the trainees responsibilitiy to learn comprehend and grasp what we teach them. not everyone will know what to ask and when to ask it. If a trainer doesn't teach him or her what to do and how it needs to be done then the trainee won't have a clue as to how to properly do their job.
when a trainee leaves my truck i stop being his trainer and become his mentor so if he has further questions or needs help he has someone with whom he can call.
thats the problem with some trainers that use trainees just to get miles I will say this wat if you as a trainer a question and he says its not important or i will teach that later and never does and the only thing he taught you was to drive. then up grade comes you really need the job and you just barely squeek by hte upgrade or they just let you go because you can't back or really control the truck. then the trainer failed you. Especially if you barely passed the upgrade got out on the road and had an accident.
A trainer just needs to train right and professionally and a student needs to really learn and comprehend what is taught. JJRanchjonr29657 Thanks this. -
I have no doubt that there are the trainers out there that just care about the money that they get from training. But if the new driver's take responsibility and report the bad trainers, then hopefully those people won't be out there anymore.
This job can be really dangerous, we all know that. And it's very disappointing that there are people out there that take that for granted and don't even care about the equipment or the regular driver's out there that could potentially be harmed.
Like I said before, noone else is looking out for you which coincides with your point that you teach them what they need to know, but its up to them to absorb and practice what you've taught. If there were more trainers out there like you guys, then this wouldn't be an issue. Maybe there should be a way for you guys, and other good trainers, to have more input as to whether or not someone gets to drive solo. If someone that's going through their medical residency is deemed unfit to practice medicine then the aren't certified. And that goes for many other industries. Just cause someone knows how to weld doesn't mean that they should be welding something like parts of the space shuttle. Thos guys are double and triple certified for what they do. It really sucks that some of the trucking industry doesn't take more pride in what they do and try to limit the unqualified people while still attempting to train and produce good quality drivers that they can count on.
Money creates greed and greed produces apathy.jjranch Thanks this. -
