Securing yourself in the truck from hoodlems

A crow bar is a wicked weapon. Either side you use. The skull splitting side, or the side that penetrates the skull and brings brain matter back out. It is also a legal nail puller to get nails out of your floor.

 

It is a bit more responsibility but for me it wasn't that bad.

Pick a breed that is very smart and very trainable. I had been raised with Aussies so that's why I picked an Aussie.

Also I wouldn't suggest picking a large breed. I drove a W-9 and it worked good for us because we learned how to not bug each other, and like I said earlier she is only about 30 lbs.

When I first got Rio she slept in a small dog taxi at the foot of my bed when I was asleep until she had learned not to mess with anything and to alert me when she needed to got out.

When she was younger, 6 weeks to about 6 months or so, she would ask to go out about every 4 hours or so, but as she got older she learned to hold it for longer periods of time if she had to.

Another reason I really enjoyed having her with me is that it got me out of the truck. When I was sitting instead of just sitting on my bum in the sleeper, I would take her and we would play fetch or just sit outside in the sunshine.

I fed her Purina which is found at any Wal-Mart or Dollar Store, and even in truck stops if you get in a bind and can't get to a "real" store.

As far as vaccinations go, you just have to have the basic rabies and yearly shots that any dog would need. Just be sure to keep a copy of the shot records with you in case you are asked by DOT for them.

Speaking of DOT, she once got me out of a ticket because the DOT officer just fell in love with her and spent so much time oohing and ahhing over her that he forgot about me, lol. She got an ice cream cone for that one, lol.

Though it would be my 2nd choice, a good dog would do the job and offer uncompromising companionship at the same time (I like German Shephards...very smart and trainable)

While some German Shephards are pretty big...some are plenty small enough to fit in a truck (about 65 lbs.)

 

I would think that someone trying to get in the truck finding a gun pressed up against his temple would probably need a new pair of shorts rather quickly.

 

Who said anything about letting the hoodlum run off??? Just sayin...

The dog is still a good option.

 

The crowbar deployed correctly they won't run off... just slide off the running board...

 

Yep...and they won't be botherin anybody else either.
