I have a 500gb external sitting on a pair of folded jeans on the shelf in the sleeper. Bought it two years ago and so far it has one small error on it. I set the laptop to shut its drive off asap so everything runs in memory usually. You can get solid state drive for a reasonable price now but they are still kinda small. Well, up to 250gb anyway. Good for making your laptop impervious to vibrations if you use one for a main drive....or raid two...(this is why I can't shop on Alienware's site, it always ends up with a $4k price tag)

I have anti vibration on my main pc here at home. I'm sure I can rig something up. Heck I used to build AK47's as a hobby everything from scratch... I'll rig something up so it acts as a shock. Prob use engine mounts from a newer car. They are rubber..

I connect with drivers' laptops every day to help them troubleshoot problems remotely. I always find out what aircard they are using and plot the results. We have been doing this for years. In general, the best signal coverage and internet speeds based on thousands of these tests go in this order from best to worst: Verizon, Sprint, ATT, T-Mobile.
Could it all change tomorrow if one of them updates their towers and hardware? Sure. But that is my experience at this time if that helps any. -
But if you are streaming video you will max out your bandwidth allotment with an air card. For normal net use they are the way to go. But for streaming, gaming and music downloads you will have to go wifi.

That is a slick looking little unit. What is the brand name and how much data storage space does it use up in say an 11 hour driving day? If 1 days worth of driving could fit on an SD card that would be great

By my calculations on this model, 11 hours of driving would take up about 5 GB of memory. It takes a max 8GB card. The reason I like this is you can leave it on and running and when the memory maxes out it starts recording over the oldest clips. (it records in 6 min clips)
Google "stuntcams"
They make an HD version as well. -
is it good quality it doesnt look like it

There is a sample of the video on their website. I am planning on using it as a dashcam for CYA pursposes and possible youtube. It's good enough quality for that.
