When the ELD records and shows "unidentified driving" can a company edit this in any way? Good example, a part time driver does not log into the ELD, he runs on paper, instead of running "legal", he snubs his nose at the HOS, but the ELD is still ticking and shows all his time as "unidentified driving". Can the company cover this by editing any or part of the "unidentified driving"??

I think the owner can assign that drive time to someone. He could also fire the part time driver that caused the problem to begin with.

It is probably going to depend on the brand of eld more than anything. Some offer lots of flexibility, others basically none.

They're actually supposed to be identical in function now between any of the FMCSA-approved, registered devices on the market.

Assuming the offending driver does not have an account in the system because he is exempt from ELD requirements, the company should mark the unidentified driving events as Won't Assign with an annotation stating the driver's name and reason for not logging in during that movement.

If the driver is not exempt from ELD requirements and simply chooses to ignore using the device as is required by law, the company should assign any unidentified driving event generated by this driver to the driver's ELD account and then promptly instruct said driver to kick rocks and GTFO because their refusal to comply exposes the company to liability.

In the system it has to eventually be assigned to SOMEONE.
If you didn't do it, hit reject, and note why if there's a tab for it.

Safety, or whomever is in charge of compliance, should know, or be able to track down the culprit.. be it the mechanics, or a rogue driver while you were on home time.
They find them, and move those hours to the correct Log In ID.

That's the process if done correctly.

That's incorrect. For ELD's it's true the drive time cannot go away. In can, however, be assigned to the correct driver by the admin.

Yes, it can be assigned to another driver, but can't be covered up. In my understanding that was what OP was asking.
In AOBRD you can just erase or edit whatever you want to

    No worries..

All they have to do in the event of an audit is change the drivers name with one that runs legal..

Yes. The admin can assign, or reassign those movements to another driver or even to a generic "mechanic" account when that happens.

Just remember that if YOU drive that truck next it will probably ask you if you want to claim those miles. Click "reject" if they are not yours and the admin will need to assign them manually to someone else.
