Come on guys, lighten up. There is no need to tear someone down. I think that its a sign of the time. There are so many people turning to the trucking industry to make money post loosing a job in a different field that the schools are full to capacity and the training companies are cranking them out. I think these training companies are making drivers that are not ready to become trainers exactly that and they are not producing quality drivers. I see a lot of people posting complaints about trainers sleeping and yelling and everything other than training on here. But hell, who cares right. They get a larger paycheck and more sleep.
JennCTW, Baack and Panhandle flash Thank this. -
And beens....I hate to say it but you are going to be sidelined until you can get on with a company to train you. Sorry but if it was my truck I wouldn't hire you either. You have listed some pretty major screw ups in just three months. While there should be some blame pushed off on your trainer ultimately the blame falls on your shoulders. I hope that you learned from those mistakes and please try to be more careful. Ask some questions when you don't completely understand something next time.

Nobody tore her down, she has a "position" running an ice cream truck, we just told her that will be her future in "driving". Hope there aren't any little kids near the vehicle when she gets rolling...since she obviously doesnt pay attention to the surroundings..not square on the scale, can't follow directions...trainer said don't move it, she did! Also in her explanation, once again it was somebody elses fault...he lied, they weren't honest about the report. This seems to be typical nowadays...individual responsibility has no place in todays society..
The fact that the training companies don't have high enough standards for their trainers, or for the minimum level of achievement to become a solo driver. That has been the case since I started driving 15 years ago. Swift made me a trainer (back before they became known as Mentors), however my circumstances were a bit different, I had years of experience as a Training Officer with my fire department, so I had experience in teaching, anyway I became a trainer after only being solo for 5 months. Plus they (saafety and driver manager) knew I was "anal" in my ethics, legality, and course completion above the standards that Swift required. -
Agreed! I started training for Millis back in 03 I had been driving a couple of years and I was ready. When I went to the train the trainer program the one thing that they pushed over and over was "Your word is worth its weight in gold when it come to the trainees" We were told that the students wouldn't be released until we said so. Well I had this guy one time. Was too comfortable and ####y from day one. I saw "Super Trucker" on his face the first day and all of his actions were just the same. I did my best to show him how to be a good a courteous driver. I had him in my truck two weeks past what they considered to be the "normal" amount of time with a trainer. I was called by the head of training and asked why he wasn't ready yet. I told him the guy wasn't ready yet and I would let them know when he was ready. Guess what reply I was give??? Bring him up here to WI. We are going to send him out with another driver and get another opinion. So I did and wouldn't you know it. One trip with the other trainer and he had his own truck. Three months later he wrecked that truck. Do you think they fired him? What do you think they did for punishment??? Hey sorry about the back luck there....Here is a brand spankin new truck. He had that new truck one month! He hit a fire hydrant with it. Totaled out the front of that truck. Do you think they fired him after that??? Nope, they gave him another Brand new truck and MADE HIM A TRAINER!!! Oh by the way. This guy that I"m telling you about. He was my best friend from as far back as I can remember so there was no personality conflicts or anything like that. To this day he is still one of the worst drivers I know. It embarrasses me to admit that I trained him. (Considering he didn't learn much) and I had heard that around 2006 when I stopped talking to him he got a job pulling logs in KY and Killed a guy one night. I heard it wasn't his fault but do you really know??? I trained some really great drivers during my tenure as a trainer but after that guy and I saw what the companies real objective was I hung up training and ultimately moved on to bigger a better things a few months later.
For what it's worthotherhalftw Thanks this. -
