    OMG
i have a hall of shame story (no pics though)

Been doing this gas line pipe (16" x 80') for weeks now and it's being loaded out of a railyard and ti's sandy but we just drive down the middle and they load us. But this being summer and all the weeds have gone insane. Like 5 to 6' tall right next to the trailer (that you are required to throw intermediate straps over each level which is a pain).

so today the loader guy isn't there yet and i'm bobtail so I figure ill smush all the weeds down so we can walk around. (cuz i tried it with the trailer but it's tough to get close to the pipe)

so I go the wrong way so I can get right up next to the pipe and i go one way and I turn around and go the other way and just about to the point where I'm done and I stop

    What the?

turns out there's about a 6" bump where the excavator tracks ahve gone thru and it kicks one side of the tractor up and the other side is in the sand. I only have diff lock, not true lockers and so the wheels just spin. totally stuck, had to get pulled out. (good to be a flatbedder and have a chain)

    Yes, that's right

    I got stuck on weeds.

I exited northbound I-5 into Camp Pendleton this morning, following this dump truck pulling an empty flatbed. Apparently he hasn't worked out the concept of stowing your chains and binders.

Seems to be a common thing for equipment haulers to do. I see that a lot on local low boys and such.

That's pretty common around here. Not saying it's a good idea but if a guy is making a lot of short local moves it saves some time.
I don't think I'd cross the scales like that though.

    jamespmack Thanks this.

I used to do it all the time, but if there happens to be a hole big enough for a hook to go through, your chain will be gone. lol

    jamespmack and Lepton1 Thank this.

If you're lucky the chain will be gone. If not, one end will hang up underneath the trailer and the other end will wind up around your wheel or axel.
Gives you a chance to practice your cutting torch skills.

I had to repair a truck once that let a 2 in strap get into the driveline, took out both air tanks and a bunch of airlines and the electrical lines too.
Flat spotted all the tires too. lol

You haven't lived till you've had to cut a round bale of potato vines off the driveshaft of a Spud truck.
    Think chainsaw...
