my understanding has always been anything less than 7 minutes requires no entry, 8 minutes or longer falls under that 15 minutes. of course now you could log each as 15 minutes,4 two minute pee stops and you now 52 more driving minutes at the end of the day!!

You dont actually have to take a 34 hour restart as long as you still have hours,, on your log sheet on the side some have the 8 day recap, what ever hours are at the top which would be day one starting on your trip, say it says 9 hours, that will fall off at midnight, and you have 9 hours for the next day to go. The only mandatory 34 hours is if at the top of the recapp you have 0 hours then yes its 34 hour restart, i know this as i was told by a safety person so to verify i called dot on it and they confirmed it. most companies wont tell you this cause they dont know, but the safety person where i worked had been a ex dot officer so he knew.

I'm not surprised they don't know. I can't anything from fmcsa which says that. Are you sure about this?

Yes i called dot to ask and they said 34 restart is not required if you still have hours on your logs that will fall off at midnight,, only if you have 0 hours at the top of the recap after 70/8 , if your in doubt ask dot, im sure they will tell you the same.

I think I must be misunderstanding what you are saying. If I work exactly 10 hours a day for a period of 7 days I would have 0 hours available for the eighth day. If that is the case are you saying a 34 hour reset is required?

This is what my newbie mind was thinking. I was planning on logging all rest stops at least 15 minutes each. If I stop twice for 7.5 minutes, I actually gain a quarter hour. Am I wrong in my thinking? Why would you not want to log that?

Depends on your speed. You may want to show that you don't drive so fast!
