Volvo's and Pro-stars, still mainly Volvo's and you might find the odd company driver in an older lease truck.

Well it's about time I post here...I'm looking to get into driving as jobs in my location are few and far between unless you're into low pay and the smell/taste of McBurger and fry.
I won't be driving for Central because I've recently had my license reinstated and central requires you to have it back for a year
. My father is one of the lucky guys who drives a 75 mph W9 4k miles a week and still has 2 days at home.
I have been around trucks and trucking for quite a few years and these posts have given me insight on the company driver bit. I thank you all for the informative posts and general useful information a n00b needs to get started driving. Thanks again and now I have a new forum to check on everyday lol:smt119---TJ

Hello to all the people that just found this tread! And those of you starting with Central - keep us posted, as school and driving progress. It helps those of us thinking of getting into the job!
But beware - this thread is addicting - and plenty of people here to help you with your addiction! But what a great group of people!!jess-juju Thanks this. -
TJ and JDT, Wlcome to the Central Asylum!!
JDT are you going to a private school?????? As far as I know Central are still only hiring students from there schools.
I am not sure of drop yards in Cali, but you can drop your trailer and bobtail home if you are more then 75 miles from a terminal or drop yard, or get permision to leave your Truck and trailer at a truck stop and have someone come and pick you up from there.
TJ, What company are you thinking of going to??????
Mountain Spirit, The people who post here do there best to answer any questions a driver or student may have even drivers who drive for different companies post up and keep us amused with how there week has been.
I have met a few drivers who post up and there a great bunch who would all do there best to help if you had a question or just needed help sliding your Tandems
Well I better get this house neatened up some sucker might actually come and have a look today its such a nice day. -
Jess, I haven't made up my mind yet on what company. I'm gonna have to do my homework to find one that will take me with my spotty employment history and recent reinstatement. I have no felonies and everything on my record is minor traffic tickets.
I have looked at USA Truck and a few other lesser known companies. My dad says little info on them is better than pages and pages of continuous bad stuff. I will have to have a company sponsored cdl class or something similar. I hear I can get a state grant or something to pay for my schooling. On another note, I have read every page of this thread and it made me think that I knew everyone personally.
Your experiences with the company and everyone's support for everyone else made me want to drive for Central lol. Still looking---TJ -
TJ,
Your dad is right and wrong. He is wring as it is better to know a company as you know what to expect if you go to them. He is right that it might be one good company that only gets around by word of mouth. I am sure others will shed their opinions. JJRanch, Jessjuju, and others including lastkid and sixpak are very resourceful.
KHLastkidpicked Thanks this. -
OH NO JJ is at the Iowa 80
And I can hear him talking graphics!!!
The Challenger Thanks this. -

im going to Truck Driving Academy out of Rancho Cordova. i signed all the papers monday and i was supposed to start there this coming monday but i need to have a night job so i can pay all of my bills while still going to school. but anyways they are a private company that is contracted with Central and a bunch of other companies to be a feeder school. i already talked to my recruiter from Central and they said i could start the school whenever i wanted. once i was done with school they would bus me down to riverside for orientation and 4 weeks with a trainer.
