If yoi are talking about when you crank it up, it runs a minute ofr two and dies, it is probably low on water or oil OR one of the sensors has gone bad. If low, top it off, if it is a sensor, unplug it to see, it will run but leave your check engine light on.

Its triggering a dash light but the problem is the light cover is broken so I have no clue what the symbol may be...I've tried searching for images but no luck

Unplug the sensor and see if it runs.

Did your warning light on the dash go off, if not I would be trying to find out what it is.
