Word problems for budding O/O and others. As originated in the WIIS thread.

The cats, Casper, and Dave have arrived in Indiana at the receiver.

We have travelled 1841 miles. Casper has used
210 gallons of fuel and DEF costing $551.20.

Casper fixed costs are $75 day. This was a 4 day trip.

What were Casper's total actual cost to travel to Indiana?

What were Casper's average per mile total costs for this trip?

What were Casper's average fuel costs per mile for this trip?

What did Casper's average mpg end up being for this trip?

Did Casper's average mpg, fuel cost, and total cost for this trip go up, down, or stay the same from the beginning? Why?

Per the esteemed members of ttr, trucking rags, and a bald headed freak radio personality that claim a truck costs $1.70 a mile to operate, what is the difference between their figure, and Casper's actual figure?

    ****Extra credit****

Dave, Casper, and the cats received $2758.12 for this trip.

Using the esteemed members numbers how much did we lose on this trip?

How much longer can we stay afloat and continue buying equipment at this pace?

Using Casper's actual numbers, how much didn't we lose?

What will Dave, Casper, and the cats do next?

Casper's total actual costs to travel to Indiana were $851.20. However there was a day ( Sunday ) of sitting because the load was not complete until Monday morning. This adds $75. So it's actually $926.20

Casper's average per mile total cost for this trip was $0.50 mile.

Casper's average fuel and DEF cost for this trip was $0.30 mile.

Casper's actual mpg for this trip was 8.76 mpg.

Casper's average mpg went up throughout this trip. Casper's fuel and DEF costs went down throughout this trip, as did the total cost per mile. Why?

At a $1.70 per mile to operate a truck per the experts this trip cost $3,129.70.

So that means I lost $371.58 per the experts.

Now per the dumb ### ( me ) and the actual costs I made $1,831.92.

Pretty big difference. Like if I use their math, Casper, the cats, and I are going to prison for willful tax fraud.

So we left Phoenix Wednesday morning. Delivered this morning. Dead headed 67 miles and are being loaded.

This is just another week in the life of myself, the cats, and Casper. This being day 6. So you're gonna have to stay tuned to see what happens next.

PEACE ( Through superior fire power )

Nice job man. I don't know how you got your costs so low unless the truck is paid for. My costs before paying me, taxes, and maintenance fund are $1.27 per mile. Granted my MPGs are way worse than yours.

It varies. The fixed costs are averaged over the last 2 years. $75 day x 365 days a year.

This isn't a "to write home about trip." Just a trip. Let's see what the rest of the week brings.

I'm going to do this for a bit to give an example that there's no "one size fit's all."

It's not for experts, they're experts. It's kinda like O/O for dummies.

It's just a purely cost and revenue example(s).

That's the question that comes up all the time.

How you spend the rest, $1700 say at the cat house, casino, bar, fancy restaurant are up to you.

Dave, Casper and the cats have gone / arrived in Texas. Day 7. Sitting at the Petro up the street from receiver.

Casper has travelled 1,186 miles. And had to shag it, and I'm tired, so this is trip total, not the two days broken down.

Casper has used 150 gallons of fuel and DEF costing $358.31. Or $2.39 gallon and 7.9 mpg.

Casper's fixed costs for 2 days are $150.

Casper's total trip cost is $508.31. Or $0.43 per mile.

Dave, Casper and the cats ate $41.00 on the OKC Turnpike. No real choice here due to time constraints. But man is that stiff.

Dave, Casper, and the cats received $2,058.80 for this trip.

Per the experts this trip should have cost $2,016.20. WOOHOO I made money even on the expert side, $42.80.

    Using the actual numbers that really occurred $2,058.20 - $508.31 - $41.00 = $1,508.89

    So I made $1,508,89.
Add in $1,831.92 and we get

$3,340.81 for a week in the life of Dave, Casper and the cats.

Granted, this is laundry money for the esteemed members of our forum. To me, Casper, and the cats, it's dang good money, and much better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

    Using the experts math

    3,027 miles x $1.70 = $5,145.90 ( That's cost ) Minus $4,816.31 ( My revenue ) = -$329.59

So per the experts I somehow lost $329.59.

What will Casper, the cat's, and Dave do next?

    Hint - reloading tomorrow.
