Exactly...... If you're goin' after "IMAGE"....... These are the only two trucks that"ll "deliver the freight". (IMHO, of course)

I'm no driver but I've been around them a while..My Dad and I have an argument all the time. He's 50+ years old and drives a LWB W900.

He loves it and wouldn't be caught dead driving a 'slantnose' truck. Me on the other hand think the W9s look like old trucks and I would love to drive the new Pete 386/7 or Kenworth t2000.

T800s are just plain ugly IMO.. Also I would like to add that he is a veteran driver with 20 years under his belt and he loves the power of his 565 cummins. I'm sure all these factors would come to

play and it would depend on the age of your driver and what image they wanted to uphold. Just my .02---TJ:biggrin_2554:

387 and t2000 are junk trucks.

Also you guys are not getting something here...if he Is going to be running in canada in any province other than QC or ON the w9 and 389 and 379's would have to have a small sleeper and a short wb to get in.As said before canada has a wb limit of 244" so those trucks would not work for him. There is away around the wb limit it consit of a permit for wb and cost $80 a month but here is where it gets screwy then the overall combo can be no longer than 65.5. It won't work been there tried it my wheelbase is 260" and the trailer I pulled up there was 47' 10" and I was still over the limit for the "special overlenght wb".

So this being said he really needs a slop nose or aero truck so he can have a big sleeper and still make the wb limit.

I always planned to look at many different trucks, the Coronado just happened to be the truck that I started looking at first... My main reason for the 'Shakers... Maintenance. As a small fleet I don't have a shop, nor do I want the hassle the comes along with it until the trucking operation grows some. I have a very long relationship with Ryder. I'm comfortable with them and I trust them. They are handling the PM work on my trailers, so it would make sense for them to handle the tractors too. They can support a 'shaker far better than a KW or a Pete so I decided to take a look at the Coronado. They have all the parts in stock, in all of their facilities...the others may take a day or overnight, and as I mentioned before I can't take the risk...my loads are very HOT! From the maintenance point of view does my reasoning make sense?? The Coronado met my requirements in that it could support a custom sleeper too and it had good looks. The jury is still out on the other factors. This is the only 'Shaker I would EVER consider purchasing... I've rented Columbia's and Century's before with out incident (and I think I was lucky that nothing happened, plus with my good Ryder relationship I always got the brand new trucks, they understood what I was doing and what I needed) but I wouldn't take one or a Cascadia for that matter if they were given to me. But as a business man, yes...those trucks are perfect for the super large fleets. I believe you are correct about the PACCAR's being better for the small fleets.

And like I said...I do plan on turning my trucks over every few years, with the kind of specs I'm looking at I imagine that my trucks would be perfect for a O/O so resale does matter, and I do think I would see better resale in a Pete or a KW.

Let me ask this?? Lets say I settled with some T660s, anyone know if I would be able to get the sleeper shell empty and bare from the factory, then take it to the custom sleeper guy and have it done to my specs??? At the very least, I'm sure they could strip the facotry sleeper interior out and have it redone?? And yes, I know I can just get the day cab and put the ARI (or whoever) box on the frame, but lets say I like the looks and the styling of what the OEM has???

And yes, I am not trying to get a truck on the cheap...it will be done right and I am more than willing to spend for it!

This is really important to me too...I want a truck that the driver just loves climbing in and out of...loves to drive, and is proud of.

Well, I won't be spending a lot of time in Canada but I'll be there. So, there is no way to take a 53' trailer with a tractor that is more than a 244" wb??? no special permits for this??? This is something that is governed by province??? $80 a month is nothing, heck...$80 a day is nothing if that is what it takes...

Thanks so much for pointing this out and bringing it up again Kelgar50! lots of great info I'm getting here!

I really appreciate all of the advice from everyone!

I would go KW over Pete but would run neither due to lack of engine choice w9 or 389 you can find hired hands to worship it and drive it cheap, but you wanted to build something diffrent and as good or better myself I would look at a Mack Rawhide or Titan with custom bunk

with all the engine changes coming and the ones that have already come make sure you check into the track records of the manufacturers over the last 3 yrs. starting next year you will have a whole new lineup from every manufacturer if you go new. scr vs egr. cummins will be the only universal supplier left. any other engine out there you will be sole to their mercy of network and such. i think these days when it comes into play the engine has got to be the core of the purchase selection. then go to your particular cab choices. im only on parts spectrum and see in the trucks that come into our shop. is what i base it off of. today i would recommend # cummins. tomorrow well might be another issue from research i've read it would be between the new detroit, cummins or paccar motors. good luck
