We talked it over at length, and after looking into the other options, Ms. JahB says I should see if I can get to work with Central, if they'll have me. She's a redhead, and right of course, so I agree. (I know how to have these conversations.)

I spoke to Stuart at Central last week, and will be scheduling ifor sometime in August, I hope. No rush, since I would want to start after she and my daughter go back to school starting in mid August. The timing works for a lot of reasons.

    Couple of questions:

Is there a drop yard in Phoenix, and does anyone know the intersection?

Brickman, it sounds like you have some trouble staying South and West as much as you'd like, and I'd be trying to do some Northwest as well. I don't have a problem working the opposite coast, but it seems like it's easier to run in the Northwest as opposed to the Southwest. Ya think?

Is there a I10/I40 freight lane to get into? Not that I mind driving the northern tiers, just curious about that, cause it would be nice to run.

What's the name of the truck centric GPS/map software?

How soon can we get the International Lone Star Harley Davidson Edition? LOL as IF!!
Have you seen that puppy? Different.

Donna, Carli and I wanted to thank all you regulars for this thread, and the time you've taken to answer a lot of people's questions, including most of mine in the process. Thanks for your generosity and honesty about Central. It's real real helpful., and I am still working through the last 100 pages. If all goes well, I look forward to meeting you when I get there, and Donna will be looking forward to talking with the ladies as well.

Good luck to you BIGGJA. You'll be done with your two weeks and into orientation when I arrive on the 13th. Hope to be able to meet with you and get some first-hand info. Seems like someone said they have computers available there in the school for trainees use.

Best of luck to you amigo.

I'm curious as to what the Dorm/Hotel Rooms are like at school. My mom and sister have decided to bring me to SLC and then take a short vacation after dropping me off. My mom can be kinda crazy about living accommodations sometimes (personally I don't care, but you know how mom's can be :p) and I just want to know if there's anything I should be prepared for before I get out there with her.

There is no computers at the Terminal!!

When they send you to the Ramada there is Internet for those that Laptops and also an Internet cafe with computers.

Techiekate, The dorms are pretty ordinary, very small and basic, The Ramada is not bad it has a pool, Gym and the Restaurant isn't to bad.

JahB, We do have a drop yard in Pheonix but not sure where it is, Someone else who posts on here might be able to answer that.

Central will try keep you on the other side of the country from where you live unless you have hometime!

    techiekate29 Thanks this.

The one time I swapped trailers in Phoenix was at the Thermo King. It's on the frontage road on the east side of I-17. Don't remember if it's off Thomas or McDowell. Don't know if they use any others.

Thanks Jess and River Runner. I know I've seen where the Thermoking is. Quite a ways from Tolleson, but closer to the house to bobtail.
Finally saw something about Copilot Truck. Any others?

    1) Yes we do have a drop yard in Phoenix, but I don't know the street name off the top of my head. Its just off the 17 at the Thermo-king & that sits to the east of the 17 on the frontage road north of I-10

    2) Yes & no... as long as you stay out of L.A. its all good running in the SW, but if you get up into Portland, OR or Seattle, WA you will be in for a long day. Those two just don't have the room needed to get a truck around. Other then that it is really nice to run up around there & trust me, after a few trips to the northeast you will be begging to stay out west just like me. :biggrin_25525:

    3) I-40 is the main east - west route for us, you will see plenty of it. The 10 is a little hit & miss for me. I do get down there, but it might be months before I run it for a long distance again. I just did a few trip along there in the past few weeks, so you shouldn't have too much of a problem with that.

    4) I run Copilot truck 11 on my laptop, works just fine.

    5) Trust me, you don't want a Lone star. They look all cool & everything, but they are HEAVY!!!

From what I got from a guy that was driving one, he said that he wished he had kept his W9 becuase it was lighter!

Jess, you know I love ya girl but I have to beg to differ from the statment that keep you on the opposite coast unless you have hometime. The only time 1bad can get off the east coast is when he needs to go to WVC for some reason or other. His miles were really good for about 3 weeks then boom all the sudden back around 1500 a week. And they still refuse to give him a new dispatcher. He left Atlanta today with a load going to Nashville. Got half way there got a pre-set going from Nashville to Ne. Funny thing is though it picked up today and delivers on Tuesday when the load he has with him now can't be delivered till tomorrow because they aren't even open today. No way he can run over 800 miles in one day. I swear sometimes dispatch is smoking crack rock on their breaks. I am sure when his reg F/M comes in tomorrow he will say sorry you have to sit now b/c you refused a load. It wouldn't be the first time he has done this to 1bad. Even though the last time he already had a load on his truck that he had just picked up and had to run 2300 miles with it. Maybe it's just me but I find it hard (impossible) to pull 2 trailors at the same time to opposites sides of the country. Ok that's my steam for today anyway.............LOLOLOLOL :biggrin_25518:

Miles will pick up soon newtruckerwidow. Every one gets miles that suck and we just have to find a way of dealing with it. I would not refuse a load as that can have negative results. Tell 1bad to stick it out and try to work things out with his dm. Does Central ever shag loads? If so tell 1bad to offer that service while WVC or another terminal Might score him brownie points with the DM he has and show he wants to be a team player. No disrespect inteneded.
