Say a person worked over 20 years in another industry. He quits because he moves to another state. During the next four months, he gets his CDL permit, go to trucking school, get his CDL license and looks for a job in the trucking industry. After failing to gain employment in the trucking industry, he gets a couple of jobs in other industries. Would a trucking company look at that person's application and determine that he had too many jobs? Would the four months of unemployment (not laid off) be a stumbling block? Also the two jobs are at the same time. Thanks.

If you have a gap in employment, on the application account for the time and be prepared to be able to account for the time...school transcripts, or some physical way of showing the time is accounted for so they have something to go on...if you can't they might assume you were in jail or something stupid like that. Just cover the bases so they don't have to ask to many questions. Otherwise you should be OK....Swift or Knight?

This is the reason I do not fill out the employment history on a standard app. I always attach a resume.

They will accept "unemployed" as a reason though you have to dig to get them to admit it.
-
you will probably also have to have a friend or family member sign a notarized form saying you were unemployed

I never had to. To much effort for me. I hate jumping through hoops. I find the more rules a place has and the more strict they are about them, the lower the pay is and the more it sucks to work there.

Thanks otherhalftw. I do have my school transcripts. I saved everything for my records. I notice a lot of companies don't want more than 3 jobs in the last 3 years or so. Even though one of those jobs were for almost 20 years, is that borderline? Do they consider if two of those jobs are the same time; a fulltime and a partime job? thanks again.

I always do that also. I always hope that even though it was not in the trucking industry, that being at a place for 20 years would show a stable work history. Thanks.

When you complete the application, show accurate dates of employment for these companies. Human resources will see that both jobs were concurrent, also make note of the part time aspect of the second job. There shouldn't be any problem, when they verify the employment.
Good luck to you!
desertowl Thanks this. -
I too have gaps and large ones and I can't recall the correct dates for my apps. I've worked at a subway that no longer has the same employers. Same thing with this steak house I worked at.. All very low in come jobs and no way to prove or remember the correct dates. I've tried to the best of my ability with my tax records but they don't show months I worked.
Do you think that will be enough that i've tried my best on my part to remember the dates worked? Also before 2004 I didn't work hardly at all because I still had some growing up to do and partyed off my folks dime from age 17 till around 23 then started to get serious.
