Violation. Anything job related has to be on duty. But I really don't know jow they would tell just from looking at your logs other then to notice you just drove 6,000 miles and never stopped for fuel.

Now ask how many do it anyway.

    Nope.

Go put a coin in a video game or two.

ANYTHING related to touching your truck job related IS a VIOLATION.

Things have changed these days. The 30 minute stop is a liability as far as I am concerned, we do keep that left door shut all the way through the 10 hours in the old HOS paper days prior to the ELD. Stopping anywhere that is unnecessary (For fuel etc) is a disruption to being able to get a certain number of miles in a 10 or 11 hour period. And it also creates additional stress on fuel lines, parking etc. What a mess.

As usual laws made by people who never touched a big rig in their lifetime.

The way things are going with regulating thought crimes would be a violation in it's day someday. //snark.

I thought fueling the trailer, or filling Def was not required to be on duty? Aren't they both tax exempt being the reason for my thought?

That's a good thought, but still a violation. A fueling operation to the truck. Feeding it, caring for it, giving it a drink etc.

Now if you can somehow pay company cash for the DEF and glug that stuff down the hatch without a timestamp anything then go for it. I doubt the computer tattle on the truck is sufficiently advanced to understand there is now two new gallons just poured back there at this date and time to report to the company.

    Yet....

If you aren't driving overnight please don't take your 30 at the fuel island. Fueling or not.

I used to log off duty to fuel but safety started calling me and told me stop. So I log on duty-fueling now.

If I need to take a 30 overnight and there's no parking I pull into the farthest spot available. Often there is another truck already there doing the same. Pull in behind him and turn your lights off so he knows you are doing the same thing.

The 30 minute break came into being because it’s what truckers asked for. With the advent of the 14 hour clock OOIDA had for letters you could fill out that talked about how you can’t even stop for a break, couldn’t stop to eat, etc and after a bunch of people sent those off the government made it so we could stop and eat. It’s what the drivers wanted. It’s just another example of something backfiring in OOIDA’s face, like when they filed a lawsuit to stop the first electronic logging mandate.

Officer won’t catch it. Your office people will...especially if you use a fuel card. If you in a bind for time and on elogs, do your 30 and a 5 minute ON DUTY fuel.
